Eastern Washington University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will stay local this Friday (Apr. 8) in Spokane, Wash., for the Whitworth Peace Meet at the Whitworth Pine Bowl.

On Friday the meet will begin at 1:50 p.m. with the women's 10,000-meter for the track events. The field events will begin at 2 p.m. with the women's discus and the women's pole vault.
This is a dual scoring meet and individuals in multi-section races will be placed by time.
"The Whitworth Peace Meet on Friday is going to be one of the bigger meets we compete in this spring. The weather looks like it's going to cooperate. We are going into this meet with full squads," explained head women's coach
Marcia Mecklenburg.
"The full team will be in action on Friday. Â We're looking forward to this meet and continuing our march to the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships in mid-May in Pocatello, Idaho," explained head men's coach
Stan Kerr.
Last weekend the Eagles traveled to Eugene, Ore., for the Hayward Premiere.
On Friday (Apr. 1)
Noah Hasselblad competed in the men's 5,000-meter and placed eight with a time of 14:36.94. This time set a new record in the Eastern Washington University record book on the all-time top-ten list where he is now 10th for the men's 5,000-meter.
In the men's pole vault
Zach Klobutcher placed second with a mark of 15-11.
Brayden Freitag also competed in the men's pole vault and placed fifth with a mark of 15-5.
On the women's team
Savannah Schultz,
Hally Ruff, and
Rosalie Folger-Vent competed in the women's pole vault and placed 1-3-5. Schultz placed first with a mark of 12-7 1/2. Ruff placed third with a mark of 12-1 1/2. Folger-Vent placed fifth with a mark of 12-1 1/2.Â
Vernice Keyes competed in the women's hammer throw and placed third with a mark of 184-8.
On Saturday (Apr. 2)
Joe Gauthier,
Liam Bracken,
Daniel Gaik, and
Logan Allen competed in the men's 4x100-meter relay and placed fourth with a time of 40.95. This time sets a new school record in the EWU record book placing them fifth on the all-time top-ten list. This was the second time this season that they set a new mark in this event.
In the men's 400-meter Gaik placed second with a time of 47.24. Bracken also competed in the men's 400-meter and placed fifth with a time of 48.79.
Gauthier competed in the men's 100-meter dash and placed fourth with a time of 10.66.
"The Whitworth Peace Meet will be a great meet as they are experiencing a larger than anticipated number of entries. The depth and quality of competition coupled with improving weather conditions translates to solid performances," stated Kerr.
"This will be the last chance for our athletes to put up some good times and marks to show us they deserve to be on the squad heading to California next week. With that in mind I think it is going to be an exciting Friday," explained Mecklenburg.
Following this weekend's meet the Eagles will be splitting squads again for the second time this season. The Eagles will have some athletes competing locally on Apr. 14 at the Whitworth Twilight in Spokane, Wash., at the Whitworth Pine Bowl. The rest will be heading to Long Beach, Calif., for the Long Beach/PCI at the Jack Rose Track on Apr. 14-16.
