Day Three Results
Â
Today (May 27) was the last day that the Eastern Washington University track and field teams competed at the NCAA West Regionals. The Eastern men's team had two men competing,
Alex Bishop and
Bobby Say in Fayetteville, Ark., at the John McDonnell Field for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.Â
Â
"It's an incredible accomplishment to qualify for the NCAA West Regionals. Bishop and Say can add the NCAA West Regionals to their resumes and both are primed to return the championships next year," explained head men's coach
Stan Kerr. Â
Â
Say competed in the men's triple jump and placed 19
th with a mark of 51-0. This mark was just 3/4 shy of his best mark. Going into West Regionals Say was ranked 27
th in the West region with a mark of 51-0 3/4 where he won the event at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. He is the highest ranked Eagle that headed into this weekend's competition.Â
Â
"Say had a fantastic outdoor season and it was pure joy for his teammates to witness him nearly jumping to Eugene, Ore., today. He significantly improved his pre-championships ranking and was just shy of making the top 12 triple jumpers who will be at the NCAA Championships in two weeks," explained Kerr.
Â
Bishop competed in the men's high jump and placed 36
th with a mark of 6-8 3/4. This is his first preliminary meet of his career. Before this Bishop was in 47
th in the West region from a mark of 6-10 3/4 at the Oregon State High Performance meet where he won the event.Â
Â
Kerr stated, "Bishop had a decent day in the high jump against a very talented field of jumpers. This experience will have countless benefits, the main one being that he knows he's capable of competing with the nation's top high jumpers."
Â
To move onto the NCAA Division I Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11 athletes had to be in the top 12.Â
"The coaches are deeply proud of the five athletes who qualified to this meet. Their determination has been evident the whole season through," stated Kerr. "A closing note is a huge thanks to the seniors who competed here in their final competition as an Eagle."
Â
The 2022 outdoor track and field season has come to an end and will begin again next year.
