"I'm very proud of our academic achievements this year," head coach
Dustin Hinson said. "One of the main pillars of our team culture is high ambition in the classroom. I purposefully recruit tennis players who do well in the classroom because I see a very strong correlation between effort in the classroom and effort on the tennis court."
Under Hinson's guidance, Eastern has now earned six-straight ITA All-Academic Team awards and has eight total in program history. In the 2021-22 academic year, Eastern compiled an impressive 3.73 cumulative team GPA.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). To qualify as an individual, you must have a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. A total of 250 women's tennis programs earned the All-Academic Team awards, along with 1,517 student-athletes earning Scholar-Athlete awards.
Gabuzyan earns her third Scholar-Athlete award, while Mathews and Mansouri earn their second. Foshee and Mann each pick up their first career award.
"All of our student-athletes take academics seriously and they all have high aspirations to be successful in their professional careers once they graduate," Hinson added. "These are the kind of student-athletes that we can be proud of having to represent Eagle athletics out in the real world. I'm excited to keep this success going. Go Eags!"
The ITA All-Academic Team adds another impressive accomplishment for Hinson's squad in 2022. Eastern also earned a perfect APR Score of 1000, marking the second-straight season women's tennis earned the academic distinction.
Foshee, Gabuzyan,
Jennifer Kida, Mann, Mansouri, and Mathews earned spots on the All-Big Sky Academic, announced by the conference yesterday. Mathews was also named to the Big Sky All-Conference second team singles in May after posting a 5-3 in conference matches and 6-6 overall.
