CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington University celebrates its 100th Homecoming Week and four Eagle teams will be in action. EWU's basketball programs will host the inaugural Eagle Madnest at Reese Court.

Football — Saturday, Oct. 21 vs. Weber State; 4 p.m. (Get Tickets)

The football team culminates EWU's 100th Homecoming Week celebrations with an afternoon contest against Weber State at Roos Field in Cheney. The Eagles hope to rebound from back-to-back losses against Idaho and Idaho State, losing a heartbreaker last weekend in Pocatello, 42-41.

Eastern has bright spots to build on, however, as quarterback Kekoa Visperas returned to the lineup after missing the Idaho game, throwing for a career-best 403 yards and 3 TDs in first opportunity back in the lineup. Wide receiver Efton Chism III eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark for his career with a spectacular 13-catch, 161-yard effort, scoring twice.

On deck on Saturday is Weber State, who is 3-4 overall and 1-3 in conference. The Wildcats were ranked for the majority of the season after dropping from the polls this week.

Soccer — (Friday, Oct. 20, vs. Northern Arizona; 3 p.m. Sunday Oct. 22, vs. Northern Colorado; 12 p.m.)

The regular season closes out for Eastern Washington this weekend with two games at home. Eastern faces defending champion Northern Arizona on Friday (Oct. 20) at 3 p.m. EWU will celebrate senior day on Sunday (Oct. 20) against Northern Colorado at 12 p.m. The Eagles will have four seniors honored pregame including Maddie Morgan, Madison Kem, Corina Froehle and Kiara Matson.

Eastern dropped its lone game this past week against Idaho, 2-1 on Sunday (Oct. 15). The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime but the Vandals countered with two scores in the second half to get the victory. Gillian Martin accounted for EWU's goal in the game, marking her fifth score of the season.

Morgan's 13 goals and 30 points lead the conference. She averages 3.2 shots per game, putting 2.07 on net. Martin and Delani Walker each are tied for fifth on the conference goal leaderboard.

Basketball — Eagle Madnest, Wednesday, Oct. 18; 7 p.m. (Free to attend! Get tickets)

The Eagle men's and women's basketball programs will be joined by EWU's Wheelchair Basketball Team and students for a celebration of basketball and opening tip on the 2023-24 season at Reese Court.

Festivities start at 7 p.m., including a 3-point contest, skills competition, dunk contest and several opportunities for fans and students to win prizes. Eagle Madnest is free to attend!

Volleyball — (Saturday, Oct. 21 at Idaho; 1 p.m.)

Eastern Washington has one game on the schedule this week, traveling down south to Moscow to play Idaho on Saturday. The Eagles are 2-6 in the Big Sky and 8-12 overall this season.

This past week, Eastern had its road trip to Montana playing Montana State and the Grizzlies. The Eagles fell to the Bobcats (1-3) on Thursday and then to Montana on Saturday (1-3). Kalista Lukovich led Eastern against MSU with 11 kills, while Sage Brustad led the team against the Grizzlies with 12 kills.

On the conference leaderboard, Brustad ranks second with 3.65 kills per set. Her 0.43 aces per set ranks third and she has 32 total aces this season. Tanai Jenkins had rocketed up the leaderboard, averaging 1.11 blocks per set. The redshirt-sophomore has eight solo and 34 assists in 38 sets played. Makenna Collins continues to be the staple of Eastern's back-row defense, averaging 4.14 digs per set to sit at fifth in the Big Sky.

Men's Tennis — (Oct. 20-22, at General Patton Invite; All Day)

The Eagles head to play in the General Patton Invite, hosted by Boise State. The tournament runs from Friday (Oct. 20) to Sunday (Oct. 22).

Eastern began its fall schedule two weeks ago at the ITA Regionals in Seattle. The Eagles had singles wins from Caden Kammerer, Tyler Waddock and Tyler Dalos. In the doubles bracket, Kammerer and Dalos advanced to the round of 16. EWU has one more competition in the fall, as the team travels to the Gonzaga Invite.
