CHENEY, Wash. — With October ending, Eastern Washington has three teams playing this week, with two winding down their seasons and one finishing for the year. Football will be back at home to host Cal Poly with an afternoon kickoff. Volleyball matchups against two tough teams for the second time this season. Men's tennis looks to put an exclamation point on 2023 with strong showing in Spokane this weekend.

Football — Saturday, Nov. 4 vs. Cal Poly; 1 p.m. (Get Tickets)

The Eagles look to rebound from a 35-47 loss at Portland State last week with a home contest against Cal Poly on Saturday. It will be a homecoming for former EWU Head Coach Paul Wulff, who led the Eagles for eight seasons from 2000-2007, earning a 53-40 record while reaching the playoffs three times. He was an assistant with the Eagles from 1994-99, first under Dick Zornes, then Mike Kramer. Current head coach Aaron Best played while Wulff was offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, then began his own coaching career under Wulff, including a five-year stint as his offensive line coach from 2002-06.

On the field, Eastern leads the all-time series against Cal Poly 11-2, including a 17-10 win on the road last season. WR Efton Chism III had 8 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles in the defensive battle; EWU held the Mustangs to just 14 first downs and 282 yards of total offense. Chism continued his standout 2023 campaign against the Vikings last week, hauling in 9 receptions for 130 yards and a score to move into the top 25 in all-time EWU receiving yards.

It will be Hometown Heroes Game Day presented by AgWest Farm Credit at Roos Field as EWU Athletics will recognize celebrate military, first responders, and emergency service members throughout the afternoon. Including this week, Eastern football has two home games remaining during the 2023 season.

Volleyball — Thursday (Nov. 2) at Sacramento State; 7 p.m., Saturday (Nov. 4) at Portland State; 7 p.m.

The final road trip of the regular season is this week for Eastern Washington with two more conference matchups. The Eagles take on Sacramento State for the second time this season after falling at home to the Hornets, 3-1. The team then takes on Portland State for the second time, looking for the season sweep following a 3-1 win over the Vikings at Reese Court earlier in October.

Eastern split games at home last week, sweeping Weber State on Thursday (Oct. 26) before losing to Idaho State, 3-1, on Saturday (Oct. 28). The Eagle defense stifled the Wildcats attack, limiting them to a -.037 attack percentage. Sage Brustad led the team with 11 kills for the team's first win over Weber St. since 2016. Against Idaho State, Kalista Lukovich recorded 17 kills and Bri Gunderson had 11.

Three Eagles have career milestones coming up with Brustad sitting at 989 kills and Kate Hatch with 1975 career assists, between Eastern and Northern Arizona. Makenna Collins has 954 digs in her career as well.

Collins ranks second in the Big Sky, in conference games, with 4.38 digs per set. Brustad ranks ninth with 3.00 kills per set and Gunderson is fourth with 1.20 blocks per set.

Men's Tennis — Friday-Sunday (Nov. 3-5) at Gonzaga Invite; All Day

Eastern Washington travels to play its final tournament of its 2023 Fall Schedule at the Gonzaga Invite. The three-day event will be held in the Stevens Center in Spokane.

EWU was last on the court two weeks ago at the General Patton Invite in Boise, Idaho. Newcomers Tyler Waddock and Arshjot Bhatti advanced to the finals in the doubles bracket, while Drew Dillon and Erik Sarlvik ran it back and won the consolation doubles bracket. The team also had four singles wins in Boise.
