GREELEY, Colo. — Eastern Washington University's Cody Teevens earned bronze in the decathlon at the 2023 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Greeley, Colo. on Thursday, May 11, finishing third with a personal best 6,312 points.

Battling through wet and rainy conditions, the junior from Pullman, Wash. pushed his way onto the podium after finishing Day 1 on Wednesday in 4th place. His final score ranks 9th in EWU outdoor history and he is the first Eagle to earn all-conference honors in the decathlon — meaning a top-3 finish at the championship meet — since 2001, when Eric Boyd also finished 3rd. Boyd holds Eastern's all-time record with 6,924 points, which earned him 2nd at the 2000 Big Sky Outdoor Championships. Teevens was born in October 2000.

Teevens was a model of consistency throughout the two-day competition, finishing in 5th or better in 8 of 10 events, highlighted by a win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.86, earning him 867 points. He finished 2nd in the 100-meter dash, 3rd in the 1500-meter run and 4th in three other events.

His previous career high in the decathlon was 5,998 points, achieved in April at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Eastern teammate Elijah Conley finished 7th on Thursday.

The Eagles continue their quest for hardware Friday and Saturday as the non-multi events get underway. The meet is being streamed live on ESPN+.
