CHENEY, Wash. — The Big Sky Conference officially announced its 2023-24 conference basketball schedules on Tuesday, filling in dates for the Eastern Washington men's and women's teams. Both will begin conference play on December 28 against Portland State, with the men hosting at Reese Court in Cheney.
The Eagle women will have to wait a bit longer to open their home conference schedule as they'll welcome Weber State on January 18. Both will play 18 conference games.
Both teams will travel to Moscow for a doubleheader against Idaho on Jan. 13, then host Idaho in Cheney for the corresponding home doubleheader on Feb. 10.
Eastern won the Big Sky Men's Basketball Regular Season Championship last season, going 16-2 in conference play, including a record-breaking 16-0 start. They went on to compete in the National Invitation Tournament, winning at Washington State before a narrow loss at Oklahoma State in the second round. The women finished 11-7 for 4th place, a marked improvement just a year after going 7-13 for 9th in 2021-22.
EWU's only non-conference opponents finalized as of Tuesday were those announced in May as part of the Big Sky - Summit Challenge. The EWU men will play at South Dakota on Jan. 3 and home against North Dakota State on Jan. 6. The women will play Omaha in Cheney on Jan. 3 then travel to North Dakota on Jan. 6.
The remaining non-conference games will be announced later this summer to round out the full 2023-24 schedules for both teams.
