Eagles fall to Wildcats on Saturday night

Weber State swept Eastern in the team’s second road game of the week

OGDEN, Utah — Eastern Washington volleyball finished its road trip on Saturday in Ogden, Utah against Weber State. The Wildcats defeated Eastern, 3-0, with a strong defensive effort at the net. The Eagles now fall to 1-3 in the Big Sky and 7-9 overall.

Sage Brustad led the team with nine kills on 39 total attacks.

Weber St. had 11.0 blocks in the game to disrupt EWU's offensive attack.

"We simply did not compete tonight and that's frustrating for all of us," head coach Jon Haruguchi said. "You can't play any team in our league and not bring your best effort and expect anything different. We have to make some changes and get after it immediately."

The Wildcats flexed their muscles in the first set, winning 25-12 while hitting .281. Eastern was limited to a -.125 attack percentage in the set. Weber went up 1-0 in the game.

Moving to the second set, the Eagles battled to try and even the game. The offense improved with 10 kills, but the team still struggled with efficiency, hitting only .075. The Wildcats had the early lead, but Eastern cut it down to one at 14-13. A 4-0 burst from Weber then put them in control of the set. They went on to win the second 25-18 and had a 2-0 advantage in the game.

Eastern's offense again struggled in the third set, hitting -.067 with seven kills. Weber was limited to a .194 percentage in the set but it was enough to complete the sweep. The Eagles dropped the third set, 25-14 and the victory went to the Wildcats.
