Golf competes at Big Sky Championships, Track & Field goes south, Volleyball and Soccer stay at home

CHENEY, Wash. — Midway through April, Eastern's seasons are going into the home stretch and finishing up. Women's golf is in Arizona for the Big Sky conference championships the next three days. Track and Field returns to Washington, with a short road trip down south on Saturday. Volleyball and soccer's spring seasons continue with home matches on Saturday as well. 

Women's Golf — Big Sky Conference Championships (Monday-Wednesday, April 15-17, All Day)

Eastern Washington is at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz. this week for the 2024 Big Sky Championships. The Eagles postseason lineup consists of Meghan Sing, Gabriella Ilardi, Brooke Mahler, Morgan Baum and Kami Twining.

The Eags are currently tied for sixth on the team leaderboard after shooting 295 (+11) after day one. Singh is tied for second on the individual leaderboard, opening with a 70 (-1) in the first round. Ilardi is tied for 20th with a 74 (+3) and Mahler is tied for 28th after shooting 74 (+4).

EWU was slated to finish seventh in the preseason coaches' poll. Eastern placed sixth at last year's conference championships. 

Track & Field — at Cougar Classic (Saturday, April 20, All Day)

Eastern Washington gets a closer meet than last week, traveling to Pullman, Wash. for the Cougar Classic, hosted by Washington State. The Eagles will compete on Saturday in the all-day meet. 

Caitlin Simmons did it again this past weekend, breaking her own program record with a 12.78m mark in the triple jump at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. The redshirt-junior continues to strengthen her hold on the top spot in the Big Sky rankings. Earlier today, Simmons was named Big Sky field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. 

Between the Intercollegiate, the Bryan Clay Invite, the Whitworth Twilight Meet and the Beach invite, EWU had seven athletes join or move up on the program's top 10 performance lists. 

Volleyball — vs. Washington State (Saturday, April 20, 11 a.m.)

Eastern will play its first spring match at home this week, hosting Washington State on Saturday at Reese Court. The Eagles have played three matches this spring already. They have one remaining home match on April 27 against Eastern Oregon at 1:30 p.m.. 

Soccer — vs. Bellevue College (Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m.)

The Eagles return to their home pitch for a Saturday and host Bellevue College. The match starts at 2 p.m. from EWU Soccer Field. It will be the second second home match for Eastern and the fourth of the spring season.The team closes out its spring schedule on April 27 at home against Central Washington at 1 p.m.
