CHENEY, Wash. — The weather is getting warmer and Eastern Washington Track and Field is ready for the postseason. Eastern travels to Bozeman, Mont. for the 2024 Big Sky Outdoor Championships. The championships run from Wednesday to Saturday. EWU Athletics is also hosting the inaugural A Night of Champions on Saturday in Spokane.

Track & Field — Big Sky Outdoor Championships (Wednesday, May 8 - Saturday, May 11, All Day)

Since the beginning of March, the focus has been on the Outdoor Championships for the Eagles. The team will be in Bozeman this week to put all the work and progress from the regular season on display.

EWU closed its regular season competition two weeks ago at the Desert Heat Meet in Tucson, Ariz. and the Oregon State High Performance Meet in Corvallis, Ore. Caitlin Simmons recorded a personal best in the long jump to strengthen her hold on the No. 2 spot on the Eagles' all-time performance list. The redshirt-junior was named Big Sky co-Field Athlete of the Week for her performance. Senior Madelyn Knight set personal bests in the 100m and 400m hurdles, moving up the program's top 10 list in the process. Owen Higgins also moved up on the all-time list, in the 800m to now sit at sixth.

Expectations are big for Eastern in Bozeman this coming week, with multiple student-athletes carrying marks that rank in the top three of the conference.

Simmons holds the top triple jump mark of 12.78, earned three weeks ago at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. She also ranks second in the long jump with a 6.22m mark from Desert Heat.

Kimberly Smith is in front of Simmons in the long jump, posting a 6.27m jump at the Sam Adams Classic to start the outdoor season.

In pole vault, Savannah Schultz looks to place at the championships, ranking second this season with a 4.07m mark. Schultz recorded her mark at Desert Heat as well.

For the men's side in pole vault, Lucas Couron is third in the conference after posting a 5.16m mark at the Beach Invitational (4/12).

Grace Bruno posted the third-best mark in high jump 1.69m, also at the Sam Adams Classic.

EWU's women's team was slated to finish sixth and the men ninth in the Big Sky coaches' preseason poll.
