CHENEY, Wash. — The academic standards were set by Eastern Washington volleyball this past season as the team earned the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) 2024 Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT. Eastern earned a spot on the AVCA Honor Roll as well after earning a team GPA in the top 20-percent of Division I programs.
To qualify for the Team Academic Award, each program must maintain a 3.3 cumulative team GPA for the entire academic year.
The Eagles carried a 3.75 cumulative GPA for the 2023-24 year. Eastern was one of three Big Sky programs to land on the honor roll, joining Northern Colorado and Weber State.
There were more than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs that achieved this award.
Head coach Jon Haruguchi will begin his third season leading the Eagles, opening with Utah Valley in Orem, Utah on Aug. 30. EWU will play Central Washington for an exhibition match on Aug. 24 in Ellensburg, Wash.
Eastern's home opener will be Sep. 4 against Washington State at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
Eastern Washington went 6-10 in the Big Sky and 13-17 last season, qualifying for the Big Sky Tournament for the fourth-consecutive season. As the No. 7 seed, the Eagles upended the No. 2 seed, Northern Colorado (3-2).
