CHENEY, Wash. — After a shutout performance against South Dakota over the weekend, goalkeeper
Kamryn Willoughby was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week announced by the conference today. This is Willoughby's first Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week honor.
South Dakota recorded 17 shots with five on goal, but Willoughby would shut out the Coyotes and record five saves in the match for the first shutout of the season, and her fifth of her career. Willoughby has been a big part of the early season success for the Eagles starting in all three matches, and totaling nine saves.
Willoughby also continues to climb the Eastern record books. Willoughby currently ranks ninth all-time in career saves (150), eighth all-time in goalkeeper minutes played (2292:42), and tied for seventh in career shutouts (5).
Coming off a huge road win over South Dakota, Eastern looks to start the season 3-1 this week as they face Southern Utah Thursday, at 1 pm. The Eagles look to have their best four match start since the 2016 season when they started 3-1-0 and won the Big Sky Conference Tournament.The Eagles have already matched last season's win total, and have already exceeded their wins on the road (2) in the past two seasons combined.
