Eagles fall in four to UMKC

OREM, UTAH. — Eastern Washington falls to UMKC in four sets (20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 20-25), moving to 1-2 on the season.
 
Kalista Lukovich recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs. Kate Hatch led the team in assists with 31and recorded 10 digs, first her first double-double on the season.
 
In the first set, Eastern Washington initially took the lead with a strong start, highlighted by a stuff block from Tanai Jenkins and Lukovich. Despite this, UMKC quickly responded, overcoming an early 12-8 deficit with an 8-0 run. The Kangaroos maintained their advantage throughout and secured the set 25-20, showing their ability to capitalize on key moments.
 
The second set saw UMKC come out aggressively, jumping to a 5-1 lead. Eastern Washington's Hatch halted their momentum with a kill, and Quincy Moran's timely attack briefly shifted the momentum back to the Eagles. However, UMKC's back-to-back kills soon reestablished their lead. Although Eastern Washington made a late push to close the gap, UMKC finished strong with a 25-20 victory in the set.
 
Eastern Washington fought back in the third set, with the teams locked in a close contest at 16-16. The Eagles gained a narrow 23-22 lead after a 4-1 run. The Eagles maintained their edge and ultimately took the set 25-23, demonstrating their resilience and ability to seize crucial points.
 
UMKC controlled the fourth set from the beginning, with a dominant 7-0 run forcing Eastern Washington to take an early timeout. Despite the Eagles' efforts to close the gap, UMKC's subsequent runs kept them ahead. The Kangaroos' strong finish led them to a 25-20 victory in the fourth set, clinching the match with a solid overall performance.

The Eagles will head to Pullman to face WSU on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
