Eagles Earn Gritty Draw Against Montana in Physical Big Sky Battle

CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's soccer battled Montana to a hard-fought 1–1 draw on Thursday afternoon in Cheney in what proved to be a very physical Big Sky matchup.

The Eagles struck first when Dakota Harris netted her third goal of the season with a header off a corner kick in the seventh minute, giving EWU an early spark in front of the home crowd. Montana, however, found the equalizer just before halftime in the 40th minute to send the teams into the break level at 1–1. Despite plenty of chances from both sides, neither team was able to produce a go-ahead goal in the second half, and the match ended even after a tense 90 minutes.

Montana controlled much of the statistical battle, outshooting Eastern 16–9 and holding a 10–7 edge in corner kicks. The Eagles, though, were sharper in their attempts, putting five shots on target compared to the Grizzlies' four. Goalkeeper Kamryn Willoughby made three saves for EWU, while Montana recorded four. The match was defined by its physicality, with 29 combined fouls and four yellow cards issued. The Eagles were forced to play the final stretch with only 10 players after Chloe Pattison picked up her second yellow card, but they showed resilience and composure to hold off Montana's late pressure.

The draw moves Eastern Washington to 5-4-4 overall and 1-1-1 in Big Sky play. For the Eagles, it was a gritty performance that showed both their fight and their ability to remain disciplined defensively under challenging circumstances.
