CHENEY, Wash. — The Eagles earned a dominant 4-0 victory over Northern Arizona on Thursday afternoon in Cheney.
Audrey Schlotfeldt opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing off assists from
Faith Hines and
Delani Walker to give the Eagles early momentum.
Kendall Moore extended the lead just before halftime with a goal in the 40th minute, sending Eastern into the break with a comfortable advantage.
The Eagles continued to press in the second half, as
Dakota Harris found the back of the net in the 61st minute before
Bella Bunnage capped off the scoring three minutes later, assisted by
Noelle Raczykowski and Walker. Head coach
Missy Strasburg credited her team's attacking rhythm, saying, "Most importantly for us, it's just been about being willing to shoot the ball—not take a touch, not overpass, but look for it from a scoring mindset. And obviously, we did that today."
Strasburg also praised the young scorers who helped fuel the victory. "Bella's such a great goal scorer and really the future of goal scoring for this program," Strasburg said. "She strikes the ball probably cleaner than anybody on our team, and it was great to see her get a clean look and finish today."
Eastern Washington out-shot Northern Arizona 18-15, including 10 shots on goal to the Lumberjacks' seven. Goalkeeper
Kamryn Willoughby anchored the defense with seven saves to secure the clean sheet, while NAU's Reece Reichwald recorded four saves. Strasburg applauded the defensive unit's effort, adding, "Our back line did an excellent job today defending one-v-one against two of the more prominent, pacey attacking players in the conference, and Cam was solid once again in goal."
The win moved Eastern Washington to 7-6-4 overall and 3-3-1 in Big Sky play, while Northern Arizona dropped to 4-5-7 and 1-3-3 in conference.
