Eagles close Cowgirl Classic with strong round

Eastern Washington played its best in the final round on Thursday

4/3/2025 4:04:00 PM

MARICOPA, Ariz. — The Cowgirl Classic is over in Arizona, and Eastern Washington women's golf showed improvement throughout the two-day tournament. Eastern shot 950 for the Classic to place 12th, finishing with a 305 in round three today at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

"We had a good finish today after fighting near impossible conditions yesterday," head coach Brenda Howe said. "Gabbi [Ilardi] played outstanding today. Shooting a bogey-free round doesn't happen very often, even for the tour players. That's quite an accomplishment for her."

EWU was 11 strokes behind Northern Colorado (939) for 11th and 19 strokes clear of Southern Utah in 13th.

The Eagles' improvement was led by Gabriella Ilardi, who shot 71 (-1) in round three with one birdie and zero bogeys. Ilardi tied for 39th on the individual leaderboard, shooting 232 (+16). Kami Twining found herself in a tie for 56th, shooting 238 (+22) in Maricopa.

Iowa State won the Classic, shooting 867, eight strokes ahead of runner-up UNLV (875). The Cyclones' Karisa Chul-Ak-Som earned the individual title after shooting 214 (-2) during the week.
