Track and field is the only Eastern Washington sport still competing in the 2024–25 school year, and the team is headed to Sacramento, Calif., for the Big Sky Championships

CHENEY, Wash. — With track and field as the only sport still in action, the Eagles now turn their focus to the Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., hosted by Sacramento State.

With the Big Sky Conference Championships on the horizon, the Eagles are looking to finish the season on a high note. Several standout athletes are expected to make a significant impact, including Maddy Shekhawat, Egypt Caitlin Simmons, Suzi Woodall, and Tuit Kimberly Smith—all ranked in the top 50 of the NCAA West Region.
 
Simmons leads the Big Sky in the triple jump and holds the third-best mark in the long jump. Woodall is ranked second in the conference in the shot put and is aiming to capture another gold medal. Smith sits just behind Simmons in the long jump at fourth. In the heptathlon, Ella Seelhoff is currently ranked sixth as she looks to improve upon her strong indoor season. In the throwing events, Dyvhon Fonoti ranks sixth in the discus, Dyvhine Fonoti is tenth in the hammer throw, and Saira Schoener holds the ninth spot in the javelin.
 
On the track, two Eastern women are ranked in the top ten of the 10,000 meters: Ellie Linnenburger at eighth and Adrienne Root at tenth. The women's 4x400-meter relay team enters the championships ranked eighth with a season-best time of 3:36.31.
 
On the men's side, the Eagles are evenly represented in both track and field events. Shekhawat leads the way, ranked second in the 110-meter hurdles. Daniel Gaik holds the fifth spot in the 400 meters, while Enoch Okoh is seventh in the 100 meters and Owen Higgins is also seventh in the 800 meters. In the relay events, the men's 4x100-meter team clocked a time of 40.50 to rank fifth in the conference, and the 4x400-meter team is currently ranked tenth.
 
In the field events, Cort Gebbers is the top performer, ranked third in the discus throw. Mason Moore follows at tenth. Logan Ashbeck sits sixth in the javelin, and Nic Cunningham rounds out the top ten in the triple jump.
