COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The anticipation was already building for Eastern Washington football's matchup against Boise State, but the lights just got brighter for the game. Originally scheduled for Saturday, Sep. 6, the game now moves to Friday, Sep. 5 with kickoff at 6 p.m. Pacific Time, 7 p.m. Mountain Time.
The game will be broadcast live on FS1, as the Mountain West Conference announced its TV schedule for the 2025 season.
Eastern is 6-13 against Boise State in program history, with the first matchup in 1968 and most recent in 2000. In the 2000 regular season matchup, the teams played in Boise with the Broncos defeating the Eagles 41-23.
Boise St. won the Mountain West title last season, defeating UNLV in the conference championship game, 21-7. The Broncos earned the No. 3 seed and a first round bye in the 2025 College Football Playoffs. They faced Penn State, the No. 6 seed, in the quarterfinals, falling 31-14 to the Nittany Lions. Boise St. finished its season with a perfect 7-0 in the Mountain West and went 12-2 overall.
This will be EWU's third-straight season with a matchup against a Mountain West opponent. In the 2023 season, Eastern faced Fresno State and forced overtime against the Bulldogs on their home field. Despite the effort, the Eagles fell 34-31 to Fresno. EWU traveled to Reno, Nev. last season to face Nevada, but dropped the game, 49-16, to the Wolfpack. Eastern finished 3-5 in the Big Sky and 4-8 overall in the 2024 season.
Eastern returns two-of-its-three top rushers from last season in Jared Taylor and Malik Dotson. Taylor rushed for 708 yards on 137 attempts and Dotson posted 506 yards on 85 carries. The two combined for 14 rushing touchdowns.
EWU averaged 229.3 yards on the ground last season, ranking second in the conference and fifth in the FCS.
Taylor also completed 74.5 percent of his passes, finishing with six touchdown passes and 320 yards through the air.
On the defensive side, senior DaJean Wells returns after leading the team with 12 pass breakups - also ranking 16th in the nation - and 32.0 total tackles, tying for eighth on the team. McKel Broussard also provides key production for his second season in Cheney. Broussard was fourth on the team with 45.0 tackles and grabbed one interception and six pass breakups.
EWU's regular season begins on Aug. 30 against Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
