EDEMINTON, Alberta — Another Eagle is heading north as
Wyatt Hansen signed with the Edmonton Elks on Monday (May 5). Hansen completed his senior season for Eastern Washington football this past fall, closing out his career as the model of reliability. He now becomes the latest Eastern graduate to play in the Canadian Football League.
Hansen started all 52 games on EWU's schedule during the past five seasons, encompassing his entire career.
During his career, Hansen earned two Big All-Conference honors, including a first team selection in 2024. He was an honorable mention for the 2022 season.
This past season, the Eagles offense ranked second in the conference in rushing and scoring, along with boasting the third-ranked offense in total yards.
In addition to performing on the field, Hansen was focused in the classroom, earning four Big Sky All-Academic awards.
With Hansen signing a professional contract, EWU football now has 94 players drafted or signed by NFL or CFL teams since 1989. Efton Chism III signed with the New England Patriots after last month's NFL draft.
Hansen continues the history of EWU players in the CFL with three former Eagles playing in the league last season.
Former 2011 Walter Payton Award winner Bo Levi Mitchell is going into his 14th season in the CFL, currently leading the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he has played since 2022. Mitchell earned CFL Most Outstanding player in 2016 and 2018, along with All-CFL honors in '16, '18 and 2024.
Vernon Adams is heading into his first season with the Calgary Stampede and 10th overall in CFL. He has played 101 games and made eight playoff appearances, passing for 16190 yards and 96 touchdowns in his career. Adams was traded to the Stampede from the British Columbia Lions in the offseason.
TJ Lee played for the BC Lions last season, his 10th season with the team. He has appeared in 139 games for the Lions, recording 585 tackles and 28 interceptions, adding six sacks.
Now starting his professional career, Hansen is currently participating in the Elks' Rookie Camp, starting today and ending on Saturday (May 10).
Edmonton's season begins on May 24 with a preseason game at Calgary. The regular season begins on June 7th against the BC Lions.
