CHENEY, Wash. – EWU graduate student Kate Hatch has been selected to represent the Northwest region at the national American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) President's Cup, to be held at the ACSM Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, at the end of May. Hatch earned this honor after winning first place at the regional President's Cup competition, hosted by the Northwest chapter of ACSM.

"I'm really excited to go to the national ACSM conference and present in the President's Cup," Hatch said. "I'm incredibly grateful to EWU for the resources, support, and opportunities that have allowed me to continue my academic journey. It means a lot to be able to share my research with others and to learn from their work as well."

The President's Cup is one of the most competitive student research events in the field of sports medicine and exercise science. Each year, students from across the country compete at regional ACSM meetings. The top presenter from each of the 11 regional chapters is selected to advance to the national stage. ACSM provides travel support for these regional winners to attend the national meeting.

At this year's Northwest ACSM meeting—which includes participants from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska—five students competed in the regional President's Cup. Hatch, a master's student in EWU's Exercise Science program, was the only non-doctoral student in the competition. She presented her thesis, "Age-Related Differences in the Acute Effects of Muscle Fatigue on Stability," a project she has dedicated two years to developing.

Her work involved a challenging recruitment process focused on older adults and required extensive time commitments, including evening and weekend data collection.

"Kate is a thoughtful and reliable researcher and a genuinely great student to work with," said Kristyne Wiegand, Ph.D., ATC, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. "This recognition reflects the time, energy, and care she has put into her research. We're thrilled to see her represent the Northwest region on the national stage."
