FARMINGTON, Utah — He drove the offense to victory this past Saturday, and now
Nate Bell earns recognition for his effort. Bell was named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference today.
In Eastern Washington's 34-24 home win over Northern Iowa, Bell accounted for five total touchdowns, passing for two and rushing for three. Bell matched his career-bests in passing and rushing touchdowns for a single game.
The redshirt-junior passed for 257 yards, completing 24-of-33(72.7%) of his passes. He rushed 18 times for 94 yards - 5.2 yards per attempt. Bell connected with
Jaxon Branch for a 16-yard touchdown pass and then found
Jamai East for a 15-yard score.
It was the second game of Bell's career in which he accounted for five total touchdowns, posting the same scoring line against Western Illinois last season.
Through two games, Bell has 564 passing yards, completing 58% of his passes, with four touchdowns and one interception. The Brentwood, Calif. Native set a career-best in the season opener against Northern Arizona, passing for 307 yards.
Out of the pocket, Bell has rushed for 112 yards on 112 carries - 4.7 per attempt - and four rushing touchdowns.
As an Eagle, Bell has 11 passing and rushing touchdowns, while throwing for 1567 yards and rushing for 793. Bell earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention last season and was named to Phil Steele's preseason All-Big Sky second team last month.
Idaho State cornerback Tre Shorty earned Defensive Player of the Week, and the Bengal kicker Mason Lindberg earned Special Teams Player of the Week
