Career: Has started 14 games as an Eagle torank fourth among returning defensive players. He had aninterception in the Red-White Spring Game for the second-straightseason.

2013: Listed as a starter at field cornerbackon the preseason depth chart. Ranked 39th on the preseason FCScornerback rankings as selected by Josh Buchanan atphilsteele.com.

2012: Earned honorable mention All-Big Skyhonors as he started 13 of 14 games. He had a career-high ninetackles in EWU’s 27-24 victory at second-ranked Montana State(10/13/12). Baines had his first career interception inEastern’s season-opening 20-3 victory over Idaho to set-up afield goal. He had two of his three passes broken up versusIllinois State (12/8/12) in the quarterfinals of the FCSPlayoffs.

2011: Baines made the first start of his careeragainst Sacramento State (10/22/11) and equaled his season highwith five tackles. He also had five stops one game earlier versusNorthern Colorado (10/15/11). He had a pass broken up and fourtackles versus Northern Arizona (10/8/11). In four springscrimmages, he had nine tackles, two interceptions and one passbroken up. He returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown tohelp the Red defeat the White 28-14 in EWU’s Red-White SpringGame.

2010: Played 13 games, mostly on special teams,and saw some action as a cornerback. He had a season-high twotackles and forced a fumble against Montana (9/18/10) in a 36-27victory in the first game on EWU’s red Sprinturf surface atRoos Field. He helped the Eagle defense rank first nationally ininterceptions (total of 26) and turnovers gained (47), and finishsixth nationally in red zone defense, as it allowed just 38 scoresin 58 opponent trips inside the Eagle 20-yard line.

2009: Redshirted.

HS: Graduated from Mount Tahoma HS in 2009.Named by the Seattle Times as a “White Chip”selection as one of the top 100 prospects in the state ofWashington. Was selected by the Tacoma News Tribune to itsAll-Area team as a running back. Baines also earned first teamAll-Narrows League honors as a senior. In addition, he was a memberof Ron Siegel’s 31-member preseason All-State squad. Hestarted the 2008 season against Shelton with 421 rushing yards– the sixth-highest single game total in state history– and five touchdowns. He finished the year with 1,430 yardsand 14 touchdowns on 199 carries (7.2 per carry). As a junior, heaccounted for 2,600 yards and 25 touchdowns and was named theNarrows League Bay Division Offensive MVP. Mount Tahoma was 4-6 hissenior season and 3-7 in 2007. His former EWU teammate GabrielJackson (’06) also attended MountTahoma.
