2012: A Utah native, his fumble recovery on asack and forced fumble by Jerry Ceja with 34 seconds left clincheda 32-26 win at Weber State (9/22/12). He finished with 23 tacklesfor the season, including a season-high four versus SacramentoState (10/20/12). He had two tackles with a half-sack versus UCDavis (11/10/12).
2011: Started one game late in the year againstPortland State (10/29/11) and finished with three tackles. Earlierin the year he had six tackles against Montana (9/17/11) and fourversus Sacramento State (10/22/11). In the spring, he was selectedas Eastern’s co-most improved defensiveplayer.
2010: Played in 14 games as a backup nosetackle, including Portland State (10/30/10) as a starter. He had aseason-high three tackles against Northern Colorado (10/16/10) andtwo versus Sacramento State (10/23/10), earning him his firstcareer start the following week versus PSU. He didn’t haveany tackles versus the Vikings, but he did have a quarterback hurryin the 50-17 win. Katoa recovered a fumble against Idaho State(11/20/10), as EWU ended the regular season with a 34-7 win. Hehelped the Eagle defense rank first nationally in turnovers gained(47), and finish sixth nationally in red zone defense, as itallowed just 38 scores in 58 opponent trips inside the Eagle20-yard line.
2009: Redshirted. Was selected as theteam’s defensive scout team player of the weekonce.
HS: Graduated from Judge Memorial HS in 2009.Earned second team All-State honors from the Deseret Newson both the offensive and defensive line. He helped lead JudgeMemorial to a 6-6 record and an appearance in the quarterfinals ofthe State 3A Playoffs in Utah. He finished the season with 78 totaltackles and six sacks.
