2014: Listed as a backup at wide receiver onthe preseason depth chart, and is expected to return kickoffsagain. The College Developmental Football League gave him firstteam All-America accolades for the North region.
2013: Earned honorable mention All-Big Skyhonors. Started 12 of EWU’s 15 games at wide receiver, andalso returned eight kickoffs. He helped fill in the void of losingthree prolific receivers by ranking third on the team with 47catches for 699 yards and three touchdowns. In a return to his homestate of Texas, Mitchell caught five passes for a season-high 102yards at Sam Houston State (9/28/13) to earn team offensive playerof the week honors. He scored on a 69-yard touchdown pass in theFCS Playoffs versus South Dakota State (12/7/13).
2012: He caught four passes for 32 yards as asophomore. All of his catches came in separate games and wereeither nine or seven yards each. He also returned nine kickoffs fora 15.3 average, including a non-scoring 67 yarder in the FCSPlayoffs against Illinois State (12/8/12). In four springscrimmages, he caught 12 passes for 146 yards and a pair oftouchdowns.
2011: Catching passes from his younger brotherBo Levi Mitchell, Cory Mitchell caught a career-high seven passesfor 132 yards and a touchdown at Cal Poly (11/12/11) to earn teamoffensive player of the week honors. As a result, he started thefirst game of his career against Idaho State (11/19/11) andfinished with three catches for 53 yards. Against Northern Arizona(10/8/11), he leaped high in the air to catch a 17-yard touchdownpass from his brother, who later admitted the pass was intended foranother receiver. Earlier in the season against Weber State(10/1/11), Cory’s first reception of his Eastern career(seven yards) was the first time he has ever caught a pass in anorganized game from his brother, who graduated from high school twoyears after Cory. In the spring, Cory was selected asEastern’s co-most improved offensive player. He burst ontothe scene to catch 14 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns infour spring scrimmages. In the team’s third scrimmage, hecaught six passes for 148 yards and a score.
2010: Redshirted. Did not previously attendcollege, so he was considered a true freshman when he attendedEastern for the first time in fall 2010. He elected to work insteadof attend college following his high school graduation.
HS: Graduated from Katy HS in 2006.
Personal: Interdisciplinary studies major. Born12/12/87 in Houston, Texas. Son of Dwight Mitchell and BarbaraMiller. He and his fiance, Atosha Granger, have two sons –Jhett who will turn three when EWU plays at Washington on Sept. 6and Dash who will turn two in December.
His brother, Bo Levi, is a 2008 graduate of Katy HS and transferredto Eastern from Southern Methodist. Bo Levi won the 2011 WalterPayton Award given to the top player in the FCS, and a year earlierhe led EWU to the NCAA Division I Championship.
