Career: After having his 2013 season limited tonine games because of a broken fibula, McDonald now has 178 tacklesin 36 collegiate games (4.9 per game), with five interceptions and16 passes broken up. Before arriving at Eastern, he had 135 tacklesin 27 career games at UCLA, plus four interceptions and 14 passesbroken up. He is the son of six-time NFL All-Pro safety TimMcDonald, who is currently the defensive backs coach for the NewYork Jets where he coached former Eagle Isaiah Trufant (2002-05) inthe 2013 season. Tevin’s brother, Tim, Jr., (goes by T.J.),was a senior All-America safety at USC in 2012 and was drafted inthe third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by St. Louis. Tevin was withEastern during 2013 spring practices after getting dismissed fromUCLA’s squad for violating team policy.

2014: Listed as the starter at free safety onthe preseason depth chart. He was one six Eagles selected to thepreseason All-Big Sky Conference team as selected by a panel of theleague’s media representatives. Beyond Sports Networkselected him to its preseason All-Big Sky Conference team.

2013: Earned third team All-Big Sky honors.Started eight of EWU’s first nine games at free safety, butsuffered a season-ending broken fibula against Idaho State(11/2/13). McDonald had a season-high nine tackles versus theBengals before he was injured. He finished the year with 43tackles, an interception and two passes broken up. His interceptionwas against Southern Utah (10/19/13). Prior to the season, heearned preseason All-Big Sky accolades from Phil Steele (firstteam) and College Sports Madness (third team). Ranked seventh onthe preseason FCS safety rankings as selected by Josh Buchanan atphilsteele.com. In the two spring scrimmages he played in for theEagles, he had nine tackles with a pass broken up and a fumblerecovery. UCLA: In 2012, he started all 13 gameshe played in and ranked third on the team in tackles with 79. Hepaced the squad with a season-high 10 tackles against Utah, andalso had nine tackles against Colorado and Oregon State, and eightat Washington State.  He had six stops in the team’sopener at Rice, and six tackles with a fumble recovery in a winover Nebraska. McDonald had an interception return for 50 yardsversus Houston. He had five tackles and two pass breakups againstUSC, and had five tackles in the Pac-12 Conference ChampionshipGame at Stanford. He sat out the team’s Holiday Bowlappearance after violating team policies. McDonald appeared in 14games in 2011, and started the last 11 games of the season. He had56 tackles and tied for ninth in the Pac-12 in passes defensed(0.86 per game, including interceptions and passes broken up). Heearned Freshman All-America honors by Yahoo!Sports (first team),cbssports.com (first team) and collegefootballnews.com (secondteam). He tied the school record with three interceptions againstCal and had a career-high 11 tackles against Arizona State.McDonald finished with five tackles in his first start at OregonState. He also had nine stops against Oregon, seven againstWashington State and six versus Utah. He had five tackles againstboth Stanford and Arizona, and recorded four tackles (two for loss)and a pair of passes broken up against Illinois. McDonaldredshirted in 2010 at UCLA.

HS: Graduated from Edison HS in Fresno, Calif.,in 2010. He played three seasons for his father, Tim McDonald. As asenior, he was rated the No. 17 safety by ESPN.com. He was also theNo. 247 national prospect and No. 20 cornerback nationallyaccording to scout.com, and the No. 47 player in theCalifornia/Nevada/Hawaii region by SuperPrep. In addition, he wasrated the No. 72 cornerback by rivals.com and was Scout.com’sNo. 33 player in California. McDonald earned four stars fromscout.com and three stars from rivals.com, and was a Prep-StarAll-Region selection. He was the No. 60 player in the West byscout.com and was a member of the Tacoma News-TribuneWestern 100. He earned third team All-State honors fromGoldenStatePreps.com and was a second team all-purpose back on theAll-SoCal squad. As a senior, he had 68 tackles, three sacks andseven interceptions. On offense he had 36 receptions for 524 yardsand seven touchdowns.

Personal: Race and culture studies major. BornJuly 17, 1992. His full name is Tevin William McDonald. His parentsare Tim and Alycia McDonald. He has one brother, Tim, Jr., (goes byT.J.) who was a senior All-America safety at USC in 2012 and wasdrafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by St. Louis.Tevin also has one sister, Taryn. His father played football forUSC (two-time All-American, 1985-86) and was a second-roundselection of the Cardinals in the 1987 NFL draft. Tim played 13years in the NFL, including 1993-99 for the San Francisco 49ers,which won Super Bowl XXIX. Tim played in the NFL for the Cardinals(1987-92) and 49’ers (1993-99). Prior to joining the New YorkJets coaching staff, Tim spent one season on the coaching staff atFresno State, and before that was head coach at his alma mater,Edison High School in Fresno. Tevin and T.J. both played for theirfather at Edison, which won the California InterscholasticFederation Central Section championship in 2009. Tevin lists NFLstandouts Ed Reed and Sean Taylor as his favorite NFL athletes.
