Danny McDonald

    Special Teams Coordinator / Outside Linebackers Coach
McDonald joined the EWU staff in February 2024 as the team's Special Teams Coordinator and Outside Linebackers Coach, marking his second stint with the program. He spent the 2018-20 seasons at Eastern in an offensive quality control role.

He was on the EWU staff for the program’s FCS National Championship Runner-Up season in 2018, helping coach the Eagles’ elite offense that featured All-American quarterback Eric Barriere and future NFL WR Nsimba Webster, among many other stars. That team and the 2019 team broke countless EWU offensive records.

McDonald, who played wide receiver at Washington State from 2012-13 before spending two seasons as a student assistant in Pullman, was a Defensive Quality Control coach under WSU head coach Jake Dickert last season. In 2022-23, he was the Tight Ends Coach for the Michigan Panthers of the USFL after spending two seasons (2021-22) at Auburn University in a Defensive Analyst and Assistant Linebackers Coach.

He also served stints at Boise State University as a Defensive Quality Control and Assistant Linebackers Coach (2020-21), West Texas A&M University as a Wide Receivers and Linebackers Coach (2016-18), and East Los Angeles College as Co-Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach (2015).

Originally from Lynnwood, Wash., he graduated with an accounting degree from WSU in 2014, then earned a Master’s in Education from West Texas A&M in 2017.
