Biography

Career (entering 2023)
  • Appeared in 40 games with the Eagles, making 29 starts and tallying 158 tackles, nine interceptions, and two touchdowns.
2023 (Redshirt Senior)
  • All-Big Sky First-Team
  • Phil Steele All-Big Sky Second Team
  • Played in and started all 11 games, while making 35 tackles. 
  • Had a career-high four tackles for loss in a single season
  • Recorded a season-high four solo tackles twice (North Dakota State 9/02/23) and (Idaho State 10/14/23).
  • Ranks fifth in the Big Sky in interceptions per game (three total).
  • All three interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
  • Made his first career sack against NAU (11/18/23).
2022 (Redshirt Junior)
  • Named to the All-Big Sky third team after playing in all 11 games and making nine starts for the Eagles.
  • Was also voted to the Third-Team of Phil Steele’s All-Big Sky honors.
  • Tied for a team-high three interceptions on the year, also leading the team in passes broken up with four.
  • Recorded 52 total tackles, tallying a season-high of seven on three different occasions.
  • His first interception of the season came against Florida (10/2/22), recording his next two weeks later against Sacramento State (10/15/22).
  • At Montana (11/12/22), Jones had two passes broken up and an interception.
2021 (Redshirt Sophomore)
  • Played in 12 games for the Eagles, making five starts.
  • Racked up 47 tackles, five passes broken up, and three interceptions.
  • Against Montana on 10/2/21, he recorded the first interception of his career with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter. The turnover would allow for the Eastern to extend their lead to six points, capping off a comeback attempt and winning the game by a score of 34-28.
  • On the road against Northern Colorado on 10/9/21, Jones recorded seven tackles, which tied for a team-high.
  • His second interception of the season came against Idaho on 10/16/21, returning it for three yards.
  • Had a season-high of nine tackles against Weber State on 10/23/21.
  • In the first round of the FCS Playoffs against Northern Iowa (11/27/21), tallied six tackles, a pass broken up, and an interception in a 19-9 victory.

2020-21 (Redshirt Freshman)
  • Played in six games, making four starts.
  • Made a starting debut came versus Northern Arizona (3/6/21).
  • In EWU’s 32-22 win over UC Davis (4/3/21), had a career-high six tackles, including a fourth-down stop on EWU’s goal line stand in the first quarter and later his first career tackle for loss.
  • Followed that game with six tackles versus Idaho (4/10/21) and five versus North Dakota State (4/24/21) as he finished the year with 17 of his 24 tackles in EWU’s last three games.
  • He also had a pass broken up versus the Bison.

2019 (Freshman)
  • Redshirted, but played in three games in accordance with a new NCAA rule that allows student-athletes to play in up to four games and still redshirt.
  • Made his Eagle debut against Jacksonville State (9/14/19), and on his first career tackle on a kickoff return he forced a fumble which was recovered by EWU and led to a touchdown.
  • Had his first career kickoff return with a 22-yard effort against Montana (10/26/19) and also played against Northern Arizona (11/2/19).
  • Was defensive scout team player of the week once, and was also honored once on special teams.

High School
  • Graduated in 2019 from Curtis HS.
  • Was a three-star recruit by 247Sports.
  • Named by the Seattle Times as a “White Chip” selection as one of the top 100 prospects in the state of Washington.
  • Earned first-team All-South Puget Sound League honors as a senior as a kick returner and second-team as a wide receiver.
  • Advanced to the State 4A Playoffs, but lost in the first round and finished 7-4.
  • He was also second team All-SPSL at receiver and defensive back as a junior.
  • The Vikings finished 5-5 that season.
  • Was coached at Curtis by Chris Paulsen.
  • Also competed in track and field at Curtis, winning the 100-meter title at the 2019 4A State Championships with a time of 11.03.
  • Earlier in the season he had a career-best time of 10.97 in the 100-meter.
  • As a junior, he finished third in the 200 with a personal-best time of 21.99.
  • He also competed in the 100 and had a time of 11.22.
  • His school’s 4x100 relay team won the state title during his sophomore season and second in 2018.
  • He also ran a leg on the school’s 4x400 relay which finished fifth in his junior season.
  • Eastern head coach Aaron Best also graduated from Curtis (’96), as well as several other former Eagles.
