Matthew Martin joined Eastern Washington University Sports Medicine Staff in August of 2022 as an Associate Athletic Trainer. His primary responsibility as the head football athletic trainer is providing medical coverage and overseeing all aspects of healthcare for the EWU football team. In September of 2022, he was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Trainer.
Martin came to EWU after four years at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. While at LA Tech he served as the head football athletic trainer and also provided medical coverage for the men's golf team. Before Louisiana Tech, he was at Seattle Children's Hospital for two years providing medical coverage for Redmond High School and at Florida State University for one year as a post-grad intern working with the Seminole football team.
A native of Moscow, Idaho, Martin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training form the University of Idaho. He was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Tulane University working primarily with football and tennis while earning his master’s degree.
Martin has been a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 2014 and is a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Washington. He is certified in various soft tissue mobilization techniques including Graston and FAT Tool. Additionally, Martin is trained in Blood Flow Restriction, QPR Suicide Prevention, and is BLS CPR/AED and First Aid certified. He lives in Spokane with his wife, Sadie, and their three-year-old yellow lab, Oakley. In his free time, Martin enjoys playing golf as well as other outdoor activities.
