Cheney, Wash. - The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team continues its dual match schedule this weekend with two matches on the road at Pullman, Wash. On Saturday, Jan. 23, EWU will face off against Washington State at 5 p.m. PST, and against Montana on Sunday, Jan. 24, starting at 9 a.m. PST.
The Eagles opened their spring schedule earlier this month, facing Washington and Seattle on the road. After the first match finished 7-0 in favor of the Huskies, Eastern claimed its first victory over the Redhawks 4-3. In the match EWU tied in the singles portion with three wins coming from sophomores
Janaya Smith and
Rachel Swindell, and freshman
Faye Worrall. In the doubles portion, Eastern won three of the four matches, breaking the tie, and taking the match.
Washington State began its dual match schedule last Friday, Jan. 15. WSU hosted a doubleheader against Montana State and Idaho, where it earned 7-0 sweeps in both matches. The Cougars' number one seed is sophomore Donika Bashota, ranked 83 in the nation.
Montana is opening its dual match schedule this week, most recently participating in the Gonzaga Invitational back on Nov. 6-8. In the tournament the Grizzlies won a total of 18 singles matches and five doubles. Junior Hannah Sulz was their top performer, reaching the quarterfinals in the singles matches.
