The Eastern Washington University women's team played their first of two matches scheduled for this weekend. Eastern fell to Boise State University, 6-1 on the road. Senior Carolina Lopez recorded her first win in the spring season, as well as the first win for an Eagle so far.

"I am proud of our effort and positive energy today," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "We had the fight we needed but we were not executing our shots when we needed to. We had some opportunities that we let slip through our fingers."

Lopez won her match in a tie breaker for the third set. She won her first set 6-3, but lost her second set 2-6. She came back in full swing and won the tiebreaker 10-2.

"I am very happy for the big singles win by senior Carolina Lopez today," Hinson said. "She found her rhythm early in that first set and did a great job of dominating in the third set match tiebreaker. She exhibited real grittiness out there today and she fights for every ball."

For the rest of EWU, sophomore Faye Worrall played in the No. 1 singles spot and fell 6-0 in both her sets. Junior Rachel Swindell and senior Erin Blessing both lost their matches with the scores of 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Marta Heinen lost her match 6-0, 6-4 and the other freshman on the team, Valentina Sottile lost 6-4, 6-1.

In the doubles side, Blessing and Worrall teamed up but only played to 5-2. Swindell and Heinen fell 6-1 and Lopez and Sotile lost 6-0.

The Eagles continue play this weekend in Boise by playing Colorado tomorrow, January 23. Matches will begin at 10 a.m.

"We are looking forward to another opportunity on court again tomorrow against Colorado," Hinson said.
