The Eastern Washington University's women's tennis team will be hosting a match at the Gonzaga Indoor Tennis Facility, the Stevens Center, this Sunday (April 2) against Sacramento State with matches beginning at 10 a.m.
The Eagles will be entering the match with a 4-11 overall record and 2-4 in the Big Sky Conference. With these records, EWU sits in eighth place in the Big Sky standings.
Eastern is coming off a close 3-4 loss against Southern Utah that took place on Wednesday, March 29. The Eagles had also previously competed against Northern Arizona where they lost 0-7 a few days earlier on March 26. EWU's last win took place on March 11 where they defeated Portland State 4-3.
Going into the match, senior Erin Blessing has the best singles record at 6-9 with playing in every match this season in the No. 2 and 3 spots. In conference, she is currently even with a 3-3 record. Sophomore Faye Worrall also has a 3-3 conference record and is 3-12 overall while playing in the No. 1 and 2 spots.
In doubles, senior Katrina Domingo and freshman Valentina Sottile have sit with a 6-6 record overall in the No. 2 and 3 spots. In conference they are also even at a 3-3 record.
Sacramento State is currently in fourth place in the Big Sky standings with a 6-2 conference record and 8-11 overall. The team will be coming off matches against Cal Poly and Idaho that takes place a couple days before playing EWU. The Hornets currently lead the series record over Eastern by a solid 14-0. Last year, Sacramento State defeated the Eagles 6-1 while playing in California.
After this match, the Eagles have four matches remaining in the season with two of them being at home. The Big Sky Championship tournament will take place on April 27-30 in Phoenix, Arizona with the top six teams in the conference standings earning bids into the tournament.
