Women's Tennis

EWU Women's Tennis Defeats Lewis-Clark State College 6-1

The tennis team continues competition tomorrow at home against San Diego Christian with matches starting at 1 p.m.

CHENEY, Wash. -- The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team picked up their second win by defeating Lewis-Clark State by a team score of 6-1, today (March 4). Out of the last three matches, the Eagles have won two of them.

With this win, the Warriors still lead the overall series, but now only by 16-14.

Eastern started off with winning the majority point in doubles for the third match in a row, giving them a 1-0 lead going into singles competition.

Sophomore Faye Worrall was the lone Eagle to lose in the singles side in the No. 1 spot by a slim margin. Worrall lost to Lauren Lang by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. This was the closest match of the day and the only one going into three sets.

Senior Erin Blessing collected the first win in the singles action at the No. 2 spot, defeating Hannah Uhlenkott by dominate scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Junior Rachel Swindell defeated Rosselli Laura 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot.

Senior Carolina Lopez had a close set against Begona Andres by a score of 7-6. She came out hot in the second set and won in a dominate fashion by a score of 6-1. Freshman Valentina Sottile had another dominate match with defeating Anna Rodriguez 6-1, 6-2.

Freshman Marta Heinen closed the match by defeating Isadora Oliveira by close scores of 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles, Eastern won across the board making the Eagles hard to stop.

Worrall and junior Janaya Smith started off doubles competition in the No. 1 spot, winning by a score of 6-3. Swindell and Blessing defended their No. 2 spot by winning 6-2. Senior Katrina Domingo and Sottile finished up doubles play in the No. 3 spot by winning at a perfect 6-0.

Eastern will continue competition this weekend tomorrow at home. They will be competing against San Diego Christian with matches beginning at 1 p.m. in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
