CHENEY, Wash. – With the second week of Big Sky Conference play underway, the Eastern Washington University volleyball team will split between home and away this week, beginning with a match at Idaho on Oct. 16 and hosting Northern Colorado on Oct. 20. Eastern's matchup at Idaho is set for 7 p.m. Pacific time, while the match against the Bears is set for 6:05 p.m. in Reese Court.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: Eastern Washington is 8-12 overall and 0-8 in the Big Sky. EWU headed to Montana to take on the Grizzlies and Montana State last weekend. The Eagles fell to Montana 3-1 before falling to the Bobcats in five sets.
Freshman
Kennedy Kaminsky paces the Eagles with a .211 hitting percentage and averages 2.05 kills per set. She's followed closely by
MaKenna Davis who averages 1.84 kills per set with 129 total.
Kamille Langford (2.00) and
Alexandra Espinosa (2.64) also average over two kills per set.
Catelyn Linke has 24 service aces on the year and averages .33 per set to rank eighth in the Big Sky.
Samantha Boever paces Eastern's offense with 8.38 assists per set, totaling 612 this season which is ninth in the conference. Defensively,
Puaoolelagi Sao has 263 digs this season with an average of 3.81 per set.
Kamille Langford averages .95 blocks per set with 58 total on the year.
As a team, the Eagles hit at a .170 clip with an average of 11.18 kills per set, their opponents are hitting .224. They average 15.75 digs/set which is third in the Big Sky.
LAST TIME OUT: On Oct. 11, the Eagles fell to Montana in four sets, (16-25, 20-25, 28-26, 18-25). In the third set, EWU was facing set point, 24-21, when they stormed back to take the set in extra points, 28-26.
Sophomore
MaKenna Davis led the Eagles with 13 kills.
Kamille Langford and
Kaitlin Sugai each had eight. Langford hit .316 on the evening (8k-2e-19ta).Defensively, Langford and
Kassandra Thomazin led the team with four blocks.
Catelyn Linke led EWU with 11 digs, followed by
Puaoolelagi Sao who had 10.
Samantha Boever dished out 30 assists in addition to seven digs and a service ace.
ShaRae Niu led the team with two aces.
The Eagles fell to Montana States in five sets on Oct. 13. After finding themselves in a 2-0 deficit, the Eagles stormed back to take the next two sets to push the match to five. EWU unfortunately fell in the fifth set by two points, dropping the match 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 13-15).
For the first time this season, the Eagles had four players reach double-digits in kills, with both
Catelyn Linke and
MaKenna Davis earning double-doubles.
Catelyn Linke had 17 kills and 17 digs to pace the Eagles in both categories while hitting .256 (17k-7e-39ta) on the night with two aces and a career-high four blocks. It was her sixth career double-double and fourth of the season.
MaKenna Davis collected a career-best 17 kills and added 14 digs while hitting .234 (17k-6e-47ta). It was her third career double-double and second this season.
Both
Kamille Langford (13) and
Kaitlin Sugai (12) also reached career-highs in kills while hitting .345 and .258, respectively. Langford also led the way for the Eagles with a career-high nine blocks. Sugai added a career-best six blocks.
Samantha Boever paced Eastern's offense with a career-high 57 assists.
Puaoolelagi Sao added 16 digs.
As a team, the Eagles set a season-best 13 blocks.
GET TO KNOW THE VANDALS: Idaho is 12-8 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. They are currently riding a four-match win streak into Tuesday's matchup after beating Sacramento State (3-1), Portland State (3-0), Montana State (3-1) and Montana (3-0).
Idaho leads the conference in hitting percentage with a .252 clip and are limiting its opponents to just .183. They are third as a team in assists per set (12.33), second in kills per set (13.13) and first in blocks per set (2.68).
DeVonne Ryter paces the Vandals with a .365 hitting percentage, while Kaela Straw (3.41) and Sarah Sharp (3.22) average over three kills per set. Nikki Ball leads Idaho with 1.21 blocks per set and Alycia Wodke averages 4.95 digs/set.
SERIES HISTORY: Tuesday marks the 56
th all-time meeting between the two teams, with Idaho leading 36-20. The Eagles are looking to snap a losing streak, as the Vandals have claimed the last four matchups.
