Annual Match Up Against Boise State Begins Six-Straight Road Games for Women’s Basketball

The last three meetings between the Eagles and Broncos have been decided by five points or less

CHENEY, Wash. – A road-game heavy December for the Eastern Washington University women's basketball is set to begin this Friday, Dec. 7 as the Eagles take on Boise State in Boise for a 6 p.m. Pacific time tip.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: Eastern Washington is 1-5 on the season after dropping a pair of close games last week, falling to Cal Poly on the road (59-55) and Fresno State at home (68-58).
 
Violet Kapri Morrow is fourth in the Big Sky Conference with an average of 17.5 points per game, which is also 90th nationally. The senior has scored in double figures in all six games this season and also leads the team with an average of 6.3 boards per contest. She is shooting 42.0 percent from the field and 77.4 percent from the line which both rank inside the top-ten in the conference.
 
Freshman Grace Kirscher averages 9.5 points per game followed by Uriah Howard who adds 9.2. Both are coming off of double-digit performances against Fresno State on Dec. 2.
 
Jessica McDowell-White ranks seventh in the conference with 2.33 three-pointers per game and fifth in three-point field goal percentage (38.9). The freshman averages 8.0 points per game and has knocked down at least one three-pointer in every game so far this season. She also dishes out 2.7 assists per game to lead the Eagles.
 
Alissa Sealby is the Big Sky's leader in total blocks with 10. She averages 1.67 per game which is 78th in the nation and fourth in the conference. Bella Cravens is seventh in the Big Sky with one block per contest. Sealby also leads the Eagles with 1.5 steals per game.
 
As a team, the Eagles are averaging 57.7 points per game and are shooting 36.1 percent from the field. They rank inside the top-five in the conference in blocked shots (1st, 25), blocked shots per game (2nd, 4.2), steals per game (3rd, 8.5), three-pointers per game (3rd, 7.0), forced turnovers per game, (3rd, 18.33), total steals (4th, 51) and three-point field goals made (4th, 42).
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles hung tough in a Sunday afternoon (Dec. 2) matchup against Fresno State in Cheney. The game saw 10 lead changes and seven ties in what ended up being a 68-58 loss for the Eagles.
 
Eastern Washington shot 44.8 percent from the field on 26-for-58 shooting and held the Bulldogs to 35.5 percent. However, Fresno State went 17-for-20 from the line while Eastern only went 1-for-3.
 
Additionally, the Eagles had four players score in double figures, led by Violet Kapri Morrow who had 16. Both Grace Kirscher and Uriah Howard had 12, while Alissa Sealby added 10.
 
KAPRI'S QUEST TO 1,000: Senior Violet Kapri Morrow is on the road to joining one of the most exclusive clubs in college basketball, the 1,000-point club. With 16 points against Fresno State, Morrow now has 905 career points, needing just 95 more to become the 18th player in Eastern Washington women's basketball history to eclipse 1,000 points. She is averaging 17.5 points per contest.
 
Morrow is currently 24th on Eastern's all-time scoring list. She now just needs 31 more points to pass Tatjana Sparavalo (2008-11) for 23rd all-time with 936 points.
 
A LOOK AT THE BRONCOS: Boise State is 5-2 on the season and are coming off of a 95-71 loss at Washington State on Dec. 2. Prior to that, the Broncos had won two-straight over Northern Iowa (61-60) and Big Sky member Idaho (91-85). The Broncos are the defending Mountain West champions and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
 
They are led by Riley Luper and Marta Hermida who average 11.7 and 9.3 pointers per game, respectively. Braydey Hodgins, the younger sister of former Eagle greats and all-time leading scorers Hayley and Delaney Hodgins, adds 8.6 points per game.
 
As a team, the Broncos average 76.6 points per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field which ranks 68th nationally. They pull down 40.6 rebounds per game and only allow their opponents to average 64.1 points per contest. BSU averages 8.6 three-pointers a game which is the 41st most in Division I.
 
SERIES HISTORY: Friday night will be the 44th time the two teams have met, dating back to 1983 when both squads were members of the Mountain West Conference. Besides the 1999 and 2000 seasons, Eastern Washington and Boise State met annually from 1983 to 2001 before the series went dormant and was revived in 2010.
 
Eastern trails the all-time series 16-27. Since 2010, the Eagles are 2-6 and have lost the last four matchups. The last three meetings have been decided by five points or less: (84-79, Dec. 21, 2015), (67-64, Dec. 1, 2016), (61-57, Dec. 3, 2017).
 
UP NEXT: The Eagles escape the cold of Cheney and head to Maui, Hawaii for the Maui Classic on Dec. 14-15, marking the final games of non-conference play. Eastern Washington takes on the hosts, No. 8 Oregon State on the 14th at 9:30 p.m. Pacific time before closing play the following day against UC Riverside at 7:30 p.m. PT.
