FULL RESULTS
CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's team played their third conference match today (Mar. 17) against Northern Arizona and lost 5-2. The Eagles sit at a 5-6 mark overall and 2-1 in conference.
"We played a very competitive match today against a tough team," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "I thought our energy and effort were good. Doubles was a battle and we were right in every match. Nelson and Broussard had great wins in singles. We will get a day to rest up and then we get to battle again on Monday. We are looking forward to another competitive conference match."
The Lumberjacks got the doubles point after winning in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Janaya Smith and Rylee Braeden competed on the first court (3-6) followed by Zoey Nelson and Faye Worrall (4-6). Stephanie Broussard and Valentina Sottile teamed up on the third court and left their match unfinished at 5-5.
Smith opened up the singles competition on the first court against NAU standout Chiara Tomasetti (0-6, 2-6) followed by Braeden (5-7, 3-6). Nelson found success in the No. 3 spot in a three-set match (4-6, 6-1, 6-2). Faye Worrall fell to her opponent (4-6, 2-6) and Broussard competed in the No. 5 spot getting the three-set win (6-4, 2-6, 10-7). Sottile ended the day at No. 6 (1-6, 2-6).
The Eagles look forward to another conference match at home on Monday (Mar. 19) at 4 p.m. against Idaho State. The match will take place in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse and is open and complimentary to the public.
