Eastern Hosts Weber State and Southern Utah for Final Matches of the Season

The Eagles will honor their two graduating seniors on Sunday (Apr. 22) for Senior Day

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team will host their last matches of the regular season this weekend (Apr. 21-22) while also recognizing Janaya Smith and Rachel Swindell for Senior Day on Sunday. The Eagles are 8-11 overall and 5-4 in conference.

The matches will take place in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse and are open and complimentary to the public.

Eastern is coming off a weekend in Montana where they faced Montana State and lost 3-4 (Apr. 13) and then Montana where they found success winning 5-2 (Apr. 15) to give them a winning conference record. The Eagles found out this week that they officially clinched a spot at the Big Sky Conference Championships in two weeks (Apr. 26-28).

The first serve against Weber State (Apr. 21) is set for 10 a.m. Weber State sits at a 10-11 record overall and 5-4 in conference, coming off a weekend against Sacramento State (Apr. 14) where they lost 3-4 and Air Force (Apr. 15) where they lost 1-6. The last time Eastern faced off against Weber State in 2017 the Eagles lost 2-5. Weber State has also clinched a spot in the Conference Championships and are ranked fourth in the standings.

Eastern will kick off their Senior Day against Southern Utah (Apr. 22) at 10 a.m. The Thunderbirds are 12-8 overall and 5-4 in conference coming away from a weekend against Sacramento State (Apr. 13) where they lost 3-4 and North Dakota (Apr. 14) where they won 4-3. The Eagles and the Thunderbirds battled in 2017 when Eastern came out on top 4-3.

Six teams have earned a spot in the Big Sky Conference Championships (Apr. 26-28) in addition to the Eagles in Northern Arizona, Idaho, Southern Utah and Weber State. Idaho State is ranked seventh and has also clinched a spot in the tournament as Sacramento State is banned from competing post-season.
