MARICOPA, Ariz. – The Eastern Washington University women's golf team finished day one of the two-day, 20 team Cowgirl Classic Invitational today (Apr. 2) in 17th place overall. The Eagles shot a 610 after two rounds (300, 310) and land ahead of conference-competitor Montana State.
Alexa Clark sits in 11th place as an individual after the first two rounds. Clark finished with a 72 in both rounds, shooting for 144 overall.
"Alexa played outstanding today," said head coach Brenda Howe. "She's in a high position on the leaderboard in a very competitive field. She's hitting the ball great and I'm looking forward to watching her again tomorrow."
Kirsten Ishikawa follows Clark shooting 76 in round one and 78 in round two for 154 overall. Madalyn Ardueser finished with a 155 (77, 78), followed by Kimberlie Miyamoto with 157 (75, 82) and Ashley Ohland shooting a 163 (80, 83).
"From a team standpoint, I'm disappointed in how we handled the afternoon winds," said Howe. "We came out in the morning and shot a competitive score. Once the winds picked up we just didn't handle it as well as I know we can. It'll be crucial for us tomorrow to come out with a little more competitive fire in order for us to finish ahead of some conference teams."
The Eagles continue competition tomorrow for the third and final round of the Cowgirl Classic. For more information on Eastern Washington's golf team, follow @EWUGolf on Twitter and Facebook. Â Â
