Annual Matchup with Boise State set for Sunday at Reese Court

Riding a one-game win streak, the Eagles welcome the Broncos for a 1:05 p.m. tip

GAME NOTES

CHENEY, Wash. –
If one thing has stayed the same over the past 10 seasons, it's that the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team will meet the Boise State Broncos. The Eagles welcome BSU to Cheney on Sunday (Dec. 15) for a 1:05 p.m. matchup at Reese Court.

THIS WEEK AT REESE COURT: Santa Swoop is coming to town for Sunday's game. He will be available for complimentary photos at halftime on the main concourse. Fans are also encouraged to bring a new or gently used toy to the game to be collected and donated to the Cheney community for the holidays.

Additionally, take advantage of the December Days ticket special. The first two children (12 and under) receive complimentary general admission tickets after the purchase of an adult ticket as well as discounts for senior citizens. The offer is also available for the two remaining men's games during December as well as Eastern's conference openers on Dec. 28 and 30.

Sunday is also Eagle Athletic Fund member appreciation day at Reese Court. A $5.00 ticket is available for all EAF members, and all members at the Red Wave ($100) level and above will have access to the Eagle Club for complimentary food and beverages pregame and at halftime. Click HERE to purchase your discounted tickets.

HOW TO WATCH: If you can't make it to Reese Court, the game will be streamed for free on WatchBigSky.com or on Pluto TV Ch. 534. Live stats are available at EWUStats.com and live, in-game updates can be found by following @EWUWBB on Twitter.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: The Eagles (1-5) are coming off of their first win of the season against Northwest Christian on Sunday (Dec. 8) in an 81-62 decision. Eastern Washington trailed by one point at the half, but locked down defensively and shot 57.6 percent during the second half en route to the victory.

Sophomores Bella Cravens (16 points, 15 rebounds) and Jessica McDowell-White (13 points, 12 assists) each earned double doubles in the win while Jenna Dick (17 points) and Kennedy Dickie (15 points) rounded out the double-digit scoring with new career highs.

Cravens currently leads the Big Sky Conference and ranks 70th in the nation with 9.0 rebounds per game. She also leads the team with 8.5 points per game. She has two double-doubles on the year, both came consecutively, and has grabbed double digit boards in three out of six contests this season.

McDowell-White's career-high of 12 assists against NCU tied for the ninth-most in EWU single game history. She currently dishes out 4.8 per game which is 53rd nationally and third in the Big Sky. She also leads the team with 1.8 steals per game while adding 5.3 rebounds and 8.0 points.

Kennedy Dickie, a freshman, is second on the team in scoring with 8.2 points per game. The Eagles have had a different high scorer in all six games this year, and Dickie is the only player to have scored in double figures three times. She is currently on a two-game double digit scoring streak, setting new career highs each time.

The Eagles rank 67th in the nation and first in the Big Sky Conference with 7.5 made three-pointers per game.

A LOOK AT THE BRONCOS: Boise State, out of the Mountain West Conference, is 6-4 overall on the season and host BYU tomorrow (Dec. 11) before heading to Cheney. The Broncos are currently on a two-game winning streak after opening MWC play with an 83-82 overtime win over New Mexico and a 72-69 win at Colorado State.

The Broncos have four players who average double-figures in Riley Lupfer (13.7ppg), Braydey Hodgins (12.4ppg), Mallory McGwire (11.1ppg) and A'Shanti Coleman (10.4ppg).

Lupfer ranks third in the nation with 3.9 three-point field goals per game, helping the Broncos to rank fifth nationally as a team with 89 made three-pointers this year, averaging 8.9 per game.

The Broncos also boast the nation's leader in assists in Jayde Christopher who has 78 and ranks second in assists per game with 7.8.

BSU has won back-to-back Mountain West Regular season titles and three consecutive tournament titles, marking three-straight seasons with an NCAA Tournament appearance.

SERIES HISTORY: Eastern Washington and Boise State used to be members of the same conference and played two to three times annually for 17 straight years from 1983 to 1998 and again from 2001 to 2003. After a seven-year hiatus, the rivalry was renewed in 2010 and the two teams have met every season since then.

Eastern Washington trails the all-time series 16-28 and are 2-7 overall since 2010. The Eagles are looking for their first win over the Broncos since Dec. 20, 2013 when the Eagles won 81-66 at Reese Court. EWU picked up consecutive wins in 2012 and 2013, but have since lost five-straight.

The battles have been close, as three out of the last four meetings have been decided by five points or less.

Sunday will also be unique because it will be the last time a player from the Hodgins family plays at Reese Court. Boise State senior, Braydey Hodgins, is the younger sister of former Eagle standouts and all-time leading scorers Hayley Hodgins (2013-16) and Delaney Hodgins (2015-18). Hayley and Delaney both played for the Eagles on the same team for two years and Delaney and Braydey faced off against each other during the 2016-17 and the 2017-18 seasons.

UP NEXT: Sunday marks the final non-conference game at home for Eastern Washington and the end of three-straight home games. Next week, the team travels to Kansas City, Mo., for the Roo Holiday Classic. The Eagles take on the hosts Kansas City on Friday, Dec. 20 at 1 p.m. Pacific time before closing non-conference play against Bradley on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. PT.

The Eagles will be back at home for the start of Big Sky Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 2:05 p.m. against Weber State and on Monday, Dec. 30 at 6:05 p.m. against Idaho State. Eastern Washington knocked both teams out of the Big Sky Conference tournament last season.
