GAME NOTES
CHENEY, Wash. – As non-conference play comes to a close, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team is headed to the Roo Holiday Classic in Kansas City, Missouri. The Eagles play the hosts Kansas City on Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. Pacific time before taking on Bradley on Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. PT.

LAST TIME OUT: Eastern Washington is coming off a heartbreaking 63-61 loss to Boise State on Sunday (Dec. 15).
After trailing by three at the half, the Eagles were up by 11 points with 6:35 to go in the fourth. Boise State closed the quarter on a 10-0 run, holding the Eagles scoreless for the final 3:07. BSU's Braydey Hodgins made the game-winning layup with two seconds left on the clock and Eastern fell short in its answer as time expired.
Despite the loss, Eastern had three players in double figures as
Grace Kirscher put up 20 points and the freshmen duo of
Kennedy Dickie and
Jenna Dick added 15 each.
EWU held the Broncos, who average 8.9 three-pointers per game to rank fifth in the nation, to just 5-for-19 (26.3%) from three-point range while the Eagles sank 10 of their 31 three-point attempts to shoot 32.3 percent.
A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: After a tough non-conference schedule that featured two ranked opponents on the road, the Eagles sit at 1-6 entering the final week of non-conference play.
Freshman
Kennedy Dickie leads the team with 9.2 points per game. She is currently on a three-game double-digit scoring streak, tying her career-high of 15 points in the last two games. She also is tied for the lead in made three-pointers (14) and three-point percentage (30.4).
Grace Kirscher follows with 8.9 points per game, while
Jessica McDowell-White and
Bella Cravens each add 7.9.
McDowell-White is currently ranked 53
rd in the nation with 4.9 assists per game, good for the team lead and third in the Big Sky. She has dished out at least four assists in five out of seven games. She also leads the team in steals with 1.7 per game.
Cravens ranks 71
st nationally and second in the conference with 9.0 rebounds per game. She's earned double-doubles in two out of the last three contests and has three double-digit rebounding games to add to her resume this season. She also leads the team in blocks with 1.1 per game.
As a team, the Eagles knock down an average of 7.9 three pointers per game which is 55
th nationally and second in the Big Sky. They have at least five three-pointers in every game this season, including three games with over 10.
A LOOK AT THE ROOS: Kansas City competes in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and is 5-6 overall on the season. The Roos are coming off of a 74-67 loss to Kansas City, but have a win over Missouri on their resume.
KC averages 67.3 points per game and also rank in the top-100 in three-pointers per game. As a team, they knock down 7.7 per game to rank 58
th in the nation.
The Roos have two players who average double figures in Ericka Mattingly (17.1 ppg) and Emily Ivory (11.0 ppg). Mattingly's total ranks 81
st in the nation in scoring, while Ivory ranks 60
th in Division I with 2.64 three-pointers per game.
SERIES HISTORY: Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Eagles are 7-1 all-time against teams from the WAC, and Kansas City is the only team out of the conference that EWU has faced besides Seattle U and Utah Valley.
A LOOK AT THE BRAVES: Bradley University is out of Peoria, Ill., and competes in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Braves are currently 8-1 overall and have won seven-straight. BU will play Liberty on Friday before taking on the Eagles.
Lasha Petree (16.4) and Gabi Haack (14.8) pace the Braves in double digit scoring.
Defensively, the Braves rank fifth in the nation with 46.89 rebounds per game and second in defensive rebounds per game (34.1). They are 61
st in the nation in three-point field goal defense, holding their opponents to just 27 percent from a distance. The Braves are also 70
th with 4.2 blocked shots per contest.
They rank 25
th in the nation with 8.6 three pointers per game, making 54 total on the year.
SERIES HISTORY: You have to look deep into the record book to find the last, and only, time the Braves and Eagles have faced. Eastern Washington beat Bradley by a score of 74-63 on Dec. 10, 1984 in Peoria.
The Eagles are 4-3 all-time against schools out of the Missouri Valley Conference.
UP NEXT: The Eagles will be back at home for the start of Big Sky Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 2:05 p.m. against Weber State and on Monday, Dec. 30 at 6:05 p.m. against Idaho State. Eastern Washington knocked both teams out of the Big Sky Conference tournament last season.
