CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team heads out on their final regular season road trip of the year this week. The Eagles, winners of four out of their last five games, look to avenge earlier losses this season to Sacramento State and Portland State.
Eastern has won five out its seven games in February and look to close out the month on a strong note when they take on the Hornets on Thursday (Feb. 28) at 7 p.m. The Eagles then open March with a contest at Portland State on Saturday (March 2) for a 2 p.m. tip-off.

AROUND THE BIG SKY: The Eagles are currently in sixth place in the conference standings with an 8-8 record and sit at 9-16 overall. The top-five teams at the end of the regular season receive a bye at the Big Sky Conference Tournament in Boise on March 11-16.
Both Idaho and Idaho State have clinched first-round byes, as the Vandals sit out front with a 13-3 record followed by the Bengals who are 13-4. Both Portland State and Northern Colorado follow with 12-4 records and Montana State is the fifth team at 9-7. Montana is behind Eastern Washington with a 7-9 record.
With four games remaining, the Eagles play two teams (Portland State, Idaho State) ahead of them in the conference standings and two teams (Sacramento State, Weber State) below them.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: Eastern Washington is currently riding a two-game win streak after beating Southern Utah and Northern Arizona at home last week. The Eagles have won two out of their last three games and three out of the last four.
Violet Kapri Morrow continues to pace the Eagles with 19.0 points per game, ranking 43
rd nationally and fourth in the Big Sky. Morrow is the most active Eagle on the boards with 6.5 per contest. In fact, Morrow is just six rebounds away from becoming the eighth player in program history to record 1,000-points, 500 rebounds and 100 career assists. Currently, she is eighth on the EWU all-time scoring list with 1,238 career points and has 135 career assists. The senior is also in the midst of 26-game double digit scoring streak dating back to last season.
Following Morrow is freshman
Grace Kirscher who averages 11.1 points per game. Kirscher has four-straight games in double figures and has made at least three three-pointers in her last three contests.
Bella Cravens is fourth in the Big Sky with 1.4 blocks per game. The freshman has record at least one block in the last 11 contests including over three in her last three games.
As a team, the Eagles make 8.4 three-pointers per game which is 30
th in the nation and second in the Big Sky. Eastern has drained at least nine three-pointers in 11 out of the last 12 games. Additionally, the Eagles are getting hot at the right time as they have shot over 45 percent from the field in the past four games.
Eastern Washington makes 38.9 percent of its shots from the field and averages 63.0 points per game with 34.0 rebounds, 7.0 steals, 12.7 assists and 3.6 blocks.
A LOOK AT THE HORNETS: Sacramento State is eighth in the conference standings with a 10-14 overall record and a 6-10 mark in conference play. The Hornets are coming off of a 75-57 loss to Portland State on Saturday (Feb. 23) and have lost three out of their last five.
Hannah Friend leads the Hornets and is third in the Big Sky with 19.2 points per game. Kennedy Nicholas follows with 14.4 points per game and also leads the team with 11.3 rebounds.
The Hornets score 70.1 points per game which is third in the conference, but allow their opponents to add 79.0 on 43.0 percent from the field. However, they are second in the conference in three-point defense, only allowing their foes to sink 30.0 percent of their shots from range. Earlier this season, Eastern made nine three-pointers against the Hornets on 21 attempts (42.9%).
SERIES HISTORY: The Eagles lost to Sacramento State earlier this season on Jan. 26 in Cheney by a score of 73-70. Eastern trailed 60-44 at the start of the fourth quarter and came within one point, but fell short in the effort. Eastern Washington had two in double figures at
Violet Kapri Morrow added 27 points and
Uriah Howard scored 16.
Prior to the loss, EWU had won five in a row over the Hornets. They lead the all-time series 34-17 and are 16-6 all-time in Sacramento.
A LOOK AT THE VIKINGS: Portland State is in third-place in the conference standings with a 20-5 overall record and 12-4 in the conference. The Vikings host first-place Idaho on Feb. 28, where a win would tie them for first and clinch a first-round bye at the tournament.
Courtney West is the Big Sky lead in blocks with 2.8 per game and the Vikings rank 10
th nationally as a team with 5.5 per contest. As a team, they also rank 11
th nationally with 18.0 assists per game. The Vikings have four who average double figures in Sidney Rielly (14.8), Ashley Bolston (12.6), Kylie Jimenez (11.5) and West (10.0).
The Vikings are also the Big Sky leaders in scoring margin (+13.4), field goal percentage defense (34.7), three-point field goal percentage defense (28.8), defensive rebounds per game (28.5) and turnover margin (+1.96) and blocks per game (5.5).
SERIES HISTORY: Eastern Washington hosted Portland State back on Jan. 24 where they lost, 76-64. The Eagles had three in double figures, led by
Alissa Sealby who had 17 points, just one-shy of a career-high. Freshman
Grace Kirscher followed with 16 while
Violet Kapri Morrow rounded out the scoring with 11 points.
Uriah Howard was just shy of a double-double with eight points and led the team with eight rebounds.
Eastern Washington shot just 35 percent from the field in the contest, but drained 10 three-pointers in the loss. EWU trailed by one point at the half after shooting over 43 percent, but fell into an offensive lull and were outscored 20-5 in the third quarter.
Eastern leads the all-time series, 35-27 and are 12-17 all-time against the Vikings in Portland.
1,000-POINTS AND COUNTING: On Jan. 10, 2019 in a road victory at Montana, senior
Violet Kapri Morrow became the 18th member of Eastern Washington's 1,000-point club. Needing just seven points at the beginning of the night, Morrow scored 17 points to reach the milestone.
She began the season with 800 career points and took just 106 career games to join the club, the 15th-fastest in program history. The Tacoma, Wash., native is the first player to reach the milestone since
Delaney Hodgins during the 2016-17 season.
Morrow now has 1,238 career points and counting, which is eighth all-time on Eastern's career scoring list, needing 52 more to move into seventh after beginning the season in 30th. She averages 19.0 points per game.
Morrow also needs just six more rebounds to become the 11th player in Eastern history to record 1,000 pts / 500 rebounds in a career. Additionally, six more rebounds would make her the eighth player in EWU history with 1,000 points / 500 rebounds / 100 assists. She averages 6.5 rebounds per game and has 135 career assists.
UP NEXT: The final regular season games take place on March 7

th when they play host to Idaho State and Weber State. Eastern opened the conference season with a win at Weber State on Dec. 29 but lost to Idaho State on Dec. 31.
