CHENEY, Wash.-- The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team hosted neighboring Idaho today (April 10) to a win of 4-3. The victory snapped Idaho's undefeated Big Sky Conference record as both teams now share first place in the standings with a 6-1 record. The Eagles are 10-8 overall and have clinched a spot in the conference tournament for the second-straight season.
"Wow, what an exciting match today," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "It was so fun to be out there on court with this team to witness the heart and grit they displayed today. This is a special team. I'm just so pleased with how they worked today and how they battled through tough moments with everything they had."
"We faced match points against us in number 3 doubles but we fought through to save all 3 points and
Faye Worrall and
Yasmin Mansouri went on to clinch the hard fight doubles point in a tiebreaker. That really got us started in today's match. We were down 3-2 in the overall team score and it all came down to Worrall and Mansouri again, at 5 and 6 singles. We needed both of them to step up again and they did. Worrall won first and then Mansouri came though to clinch the overall match. They fought with poise and such heart to come out on top. Every member of the team invested themselves in today's match and I'm so happy that they get to celebrate with a win. To sit on top of the conference standings and clinch a berth to the conference tournament are just icing on the cake. I'm a proud coach and I'm motivated to build upon what we've already accomplished. We have a lot more to achieve and we will certainly continue working hard to make those happen. We have a tough Senior Day match coming up on Sunday against Sacramento State and we are excited to celebrate our three seniors and bring the same kind of grit to the tennis court."
