After splitting the team between three meets last week, the Eastern Washington University track and field team travels to Oregon State University to compete in the OSU High Performance Meet on April 26-27 in Corvallis, Ore.
Field events begin at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, April 26, with the pole vault, hammer and discus. Running events start at 5:45 p.m. with the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The meet continues on Saturday with field events at 11:30 a.m. and track events at 1 p.m.
"The Oregon State High Performance Meet has become one of the favorite meets for the team," said head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "We have gotten some outstanding performances out of this meet in the past and I am expecting us to do the same this year."
The Eagles only have one more meet after this before they travel to Missoula, Mont., to compete in the Big Sky Outdoor Championships on May 8-11.
Last Time Out…
The Eagles competed at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and The Beach Invitational.
Keshun McGee set a new school record in the long jump with a mark of 25-2, which broke the 40-year-old record of 25-5 1/4 set by Vic White in 1979.
Â
Tremaine McAdams had a time of 49.31 to place 29th in the 400. Sophomore
Isaac Barville set a massive personal best in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:49.95.Â
Joe Gauthier set a huge personal record in the 100 meters, running a 10.61 to place 18th.
In the field, senior
Paris Flenoy threw a new personal best of 48-10 3/4 in the shot put to place her 14th. Her mark improved her two positions to third on EWU's all-time leaders list behind marks of 50-11 (Nancy Kuiper in 1991) and 51-0 3/4 (Erica Chaney in 2011).
Â
Justean Landis set a personal best in the hammer with a throw of 177-8, placing 28th and ranking No. 10 in school history.
Â
In the pole vault,
Samantha Raines was the top vaulter for the Eagles jumping 12-10, placing 14th overall. Right behind her in 15th was
Elizabeth Prouty, who also jumped 12-10.
Freshman
Ami Njadoe raced back-to-back days, and on Saturday she recorded a personal best time of 15.02 in the 100-meter hurdles.Â
More Comments from Head Coach Marcia Mecklenburg…
"I believe
Samantha Raines and
Elizabeth Prouty will be going into this meet as the top two pole vaulters. It seems like things started clicking for them at Long Beach last weekend so it will be fun to see what they can do at OSU."
"All of the EWU throwers will be challenged with a strong group of throwers from both Oregon and Oregon State. Our veteran throwers,
Maggie Nelson,
Paris Flenoy,
Madison Doepker, and
Justean Landis, have hit some big throws in the last couple of meets so I am expecting them to step up to the challenge and go even bigger."
"I am ready to see
Maegan McCurdy and Dominque Butler have some good performances in the long jump and triple jump. I think they are both chomping at the bit to hit some big jumps."
"On the rookie side,
Ami Njadoe has been improving each week in the 400 hurdles, and
Aulane Mpouli has steadily been bringing her 200 time down. I wouldn't be surprised to see them improve again this week.Â
Hadassah Ward is having a great freshman season in the shot put and hopefully she can improve on her season's best mark."
"We are getting closer to the Big Sky Conference Championships, so for some athletes this will be their final competition before the Big Sky meet. They are going to want to perform well so it should make for an exciting track and field meet."
