There was some jumping and pole vaulting déjà vu Saturday (May 11) for the Eastern Washington University track and field team as the Big Sky Conference Track and Field Championships concluded in Missoula, Mont.
Â
Junior
Keshun McGee won his EWU record sixth Big Sky men's title, winning the triple jump to give him a 4-of-4 sweep of jumping titles indoors and outdoors in 2019. No other Eagle male has won more than four career Big Sky titles, and McGee now has six, including a school-record 25-4 1/2 effort to win the long jump on Friday.
Â
McGee took the lead for good in the triple jump competition with a 50-11 effort on his fourth attempt, and won by nearly a foot.
Bobby Say finished third for the Eagles with an effort of 48-3 1/2.
Â
Meanwhile, junior
Larry Still returned to the top spot on the podium, winning gold in the pole vault. His mark of 16-5 1/2 was equaled by another competitor, but Still won out by virtue of clearing that height on his first attempt. He won his fourth career league title, and first since indoors in 2018.
Â
Eastern sophomore
Bailey Aiello picked up a third-place finish in the pole vault, a day after the Eagle women went 1-2-3 in that event. Eastern has now won 16 Big Sky pole vault titles in 32 years in the league, and this was the first time EWU won both the men's and women's titles in the same outdoor meet (EWU won both indoors in 2018).
Â
With McGee and Still combining for 30 points, the EWU men finished with 66 points to place sixth. The women, who were the first-day leader with 42 points, finished with 61 points to place seventh.
Â
"A great crowd at Dornblaser Field was treated to a great meet over these past four days," said men's head coach
Stan Kerr. "Keshun and Larry put together performances today in the triple jump and pole vault that showed why they're repeating conference champions in their respective events. They'll now get the opportunity to compete at the regional championships with a chance to advance to the national championships."
Â
"The goal was to try and hang on for as long as possible today," said women's head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "We knew going in that the potential to score on the last day at Big Sky's was going to be very limited for our crew."
Â
The top performances by the women on Saturday came in the hammer throw with a 3-5-7 finish to score 12 points. Eastern was led by the third-place finish by
Madison Doepker, who won the javelin on Friday.
Â
Eastern's Dominque Butler picked up a third-place finish in the triple jump on Saturday to give the women a total of six All-Big Sky Conference performers in the meet (top three finish).
Joe Gauthier finished third in the 100, giving the men a total of seven.
Â
Top Performances
In the field, junior
Justean Landis threw 173-10 to place fifth behind Deopker and juniorÂ
Riley Scocco threw a personal best of 167-11 to get her into finals and place seventh overall.Â
Â
Gavin Lee threw a 197-6 on his last throw to sneak into seventh place to get the team two points. Freshman
Bobby Say made his first appearance on the podium with a third place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 48-3 1/2.
Â
Sophomore
Joe Gauthier ran a personal best time of 10.54 in the 100 meters to claim third.
Isaac Barville ran a personal best time of 3:49.46 to place seventh in the 1500. With that time, he is on the bubble to make the regional cut.
Â
The women's 4x100 team placed eighth claiming one point for the women's team. The men's 4x100 team ran a season's best time of 41.41 grabbing four points for the men's side.

More comments from women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg…
"We got some good points in the hammer from
Madison Doepker's third place,
Justean Landis fifth and
Riley Scocco's personal best seventh place finish."Â
Â
"Our 4x100 relay made up of pole vault champion,
Samantha Raines,
Aulane Mpouli,
Alyssa Hoffman, and
Sophie Bowles placed eighth scoring us a point."
Â
"
Dominique Butler finished her collegiate career with a personal record and an All-Big Sky third place finish in the triple jump. Dominique has been a contender from her freshman year on, so I am glad to see her end her career on the podium."
Â
"It was a great meet with some outstanding performances from our crew. We ended up scoring more points than was predicted. That is always a plus.  Next up, NCAA West Regionals."
Â
More comments from men's head coach Stan Kerr…
"It was a joy to watch
Bobby Say earn All-Big Sky Conference Honors in the triple jump. He's worked hard for this recognition." Â
Â
"In the javelin, it was a talented field and
Gavin Lee just missed going over the 200-foot barrier. Nonetheless, he scored and did the throwers proud." Â
Â
Bailey Aiello has been close all year and had a breakthrough effort in the vault with a vault of 15-9 3/4 which earned him All-Big Sky Conference honors too." Â
Â
"
Joe Gauthier has a great weekend of sprinting. He had personal best in his individual events as well as picking up points in the 4x100 relay." Â
Â
"Overall, the team's effort was outstanding. While this meet was the last meet for our proud seniors, it also provided us with a good glimpse of things to come in Eagle track and field. The future of EWU track and field is bright!"
