EWU Tennis Hosts Idaho State for First Big Sky Conference Match this Saturday

Women’s tennis is set to play the Bengals at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse beginning at 10 a.m. PT

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team hosts Idaho State this Saturday (Feb. 15) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash., starting at 10 a.m. Pacific time. The squad has an overall record of 2-3 as this will mark their first Big Sky Conference match of the season.

EWU returns to play after dropping to Washington State 7-0 in last Saturday's match (Feb. 8) at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse in Pullman, Wash.

"The team is really anxious and excited to begin conference play. We've been able to develop some good things as a team during the first month of the season both on and off the court," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "This team plays for each other and they are really a cohesive group, which is fun to see as a coach and it makes a big difference on match day. I look for them to leave it all on the court this weekend in our conference opener. We look forward to defending our home court to start league play."

EWU has an overall series record of 11-19 against ISU with a two-match win streak. Last season, the Eagles competed against the Bengals on the road and returned home victorious 5-2. The season before, EWU hosted ISU at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse to a 4-3 victory.

Idaho State is currently 3-3 overall and has a one-match win streak after defeating Texas-El Paso last week. The Bengals are led by fifth-year head coach Gretchen Maloney and they return senior Hristina Cvetkovic, who is currently on a four-match win streak. Last season, Maloney led her squad to a 9-10 overall record and a 4-6 conference record.

After hosting Idaho State, the Eagles will take a week off from competition before traveling to face Idaho for another conference match. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday, February 29 in Moscow, Idaho.
