Eagle Tennis Dominates Portland State, 7-0

Women’s tennis sits on top of the Big Sky Conference with an undefeated 3-0 record

Box Score

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team hosted Portland State today (Mar. 1) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse to a 7-0 victory. The Eagles improve to 5-3 overall with an unbeaten 3-0 Big Sky Conference record while the Vikings fall to a 1-2 conference record.

It is just the fourth time in program history, and second-straight season, that the Eagles have opened up conference play with three-straight wins. After today's dominant performance, the Eagles sit in first-place in the Big Sky while Northern Arizona and Idaho trail behind in second and third.

Following the match, Portland State falls to a 3-6 overall record as they sit in fourth-place in the conference. The Eagles now have an overall record of 24-5 versus the Vikings and a four-match win streak. EWU has defeated PSU by five or more points in their last three matches.

"Today's match was a battle from start to finish, and that's what we expected from a Big Sky Conference opponent. All of the matches could have gone either way today. The biggest difference that resulted in a great conference win was heart and a "never say die" attitude. We were able to come up big in pressure moments and situations that looked tough to get out of. We were down in all of the singles matches at one point or another and we clawed our way back. That speaks volumes to the grit that this team has," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "When things got tough, we just got tougher and we rose to the occasion. This team earned the victory today and I'm so happy for them to taste this success when they pour themselves into each point out there. I'm so proud of every player on our team for fighting through those moments to get the win. We are going to enjoy this weekend of wins but we look forward to going back to work this week for more tough matches to come."
