St. George, Utah. – The Eastern Washington University golf team finished the first round of competition at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invite today (Mar. 12) in St. George, Utah, at the Sunbrook Golf Course. Eastern shot 301 strokes through 18-holes to finish third place out of ten teams.

Senior Madalyn Ardueser is currently in first place with 70 strokes to lead the Eagles.

'I'm happy with how we played today. This is a course we tend to struggle on, and I'm feeling really good sitting in third place," said head coach Brenda Howe. "Madalyn Ardueser and Megan Ohland played great today. Obviously as seniors, there's some uncertainty right now with how their college career will play out, so I'm really proud of them for going out and taking advantage of the opportunity to compete."

The Eagles finished second out of five competing Big Sky Conference schools as host Southern Utah holds the overall first place spot with 296 strokes in the tournament.

Weber State finished sixth with 305 strokes, followed by Montana (309) in eighth and Idaho State (318) in 10th at the bottom.

Eastern was four strokes away from finishing second, as South Dakota State finished right above them with 297 strokes.
