TEMPE, Ariz. – For the fourth-straight season, the Eastern Washington University women's tennis team earned an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award. Additionally, the Eagles had five individuals named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete list in
Renata Gabuzyan,
Marta Heinen,
Yasmin Mansouri,
Zoey Nelson and
Louise Waite.
This is the sixth ITA All-Academic Team award in program history and fourth year in a row the Eagles had at least five honorees on the team. In 2020, 1,430 Division I student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete while 244 teams were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The Eagles earned the award after posting an accumulative GPA of 3.67 over the past academic year.
To qualify as an individual, you must have a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
Heinen, who was the lone senior for the Eagles this year, earns ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition for the third time and was also named the ITA Northwest Region Senior Player of the Year back in May.
Mansouri, Nelson and Waite made the list for the second time in their respective careers, while Gabuzyan was honored for the first time as a freshman. All five players also earned a spot on the Spring Big Sky All-Academic team.
On the court, the Eagles were off to a hot 4-0 start in Big Sky Conference play in 2020 for the first time since 2010 and finished 4-1 before their season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
