GAME NOTES
CHENEY, Wash. – For the first time since early January, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team is back on the road for a pair of games at Sacramento State this week. The Eagles travel to Sacramento, Calif., for games on Jan. 28 and Jan. 30, with tip-off times set for 5:05 p.m. Pacific time and 12 p.m. PT, respectively.
Both games will be broadcast for free on Pluto TV Ch. 1052 with live stats available at EWUStats.com.
Eastern Washington has won four of its last six games and looks to get back to the win column after dropping a pair of games at home to Northern Colorado last week. The Eagles are 5-8 overall with an even 4-4 mark in Big Sky Conference play to rank sixth in the conference standings, while the Hornets are 0-11 overall with an 0-8 mark in conference action.
Freshman
Maisie Burnham leads the Eagles with 13.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. In conference action, Burnham is averaging 15.6 points and 6.7 rebounds and has a double-digit scoring streak of eight-straight games dating back to Dec. 19, 2020. Last week against Northern Colorado, Burnham averaged 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game after setting new career-highs in points scored (22) and rebounds (11) on Jan. 23 for her first career double-double.
Kennedy Dickie (13.0 ppg / 6.0 rpg) and
Aaliyah Alexander (12.1 ppg) also lead the way offensively for EWU, with
Jenna Dick (9.8 ppg) and
Grace Kirscher (9.6 ppg) not far behind.
As a team, the Eagles average 64.5 points and 34.3 rebounds per game.
For Sacramento State, Summer Menke averages 13.8 points per game while Tiana Johnson averages 13.1 in eight games played. The Hornets average 66.7 points and 36.1 rebounds per game.
Expect a three-point shootout, as the Hornets average 8.2 made three-pointers on 27.5 attempts per game and the Eagles make 6.8.
Eastern Washington leads the all-time series over Sacramento State, 36-18 with an 18-8 mark in Sacramento that includes five-straight victories dating back to 2016. The Eagles have also claimed seven out of the last 10 matchups.
Last season, the two teams split. Despite a career-high 28 points with eight made three-pointers from Dick on Feb. 1, the Eagles lost 74-67 in Cheney. Dickie (14) and Kirscher (13) also scored in double figures.
Eastern Washington bounced back with a 78-73 win in Sacramento weeks later on Feb. 20. Trailing by 15 points entering the fourth quarter, the Eagles forged a comeback and outscored the Hornets 30-15 in the final frame for the win. Dick (16), Kirscher (16) and Dickie (10) all scored in double figures in that game as well.
Eastern Washington will split a home and away game with local foe Idaho when they return from this trip. The Eagles host the Vandals on SWX on Feb. 4 for a 6:05 p.m. tip at Reese Court before traveling to Moscow on Feb. 6 with tip-off set for 12 p.m.
