Back at home after opening Big Sky Conference play, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team is set to host Multnomah on Tuesday (Dec. 7) evening at Reese Court. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Cheney, Wash.
The game will not be streamed, but live stats are available at EWUStats.com. Additionally, admission to the contest is free. As a reminder, proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours for fans ages 11 or older is required for entry to home games. Masks must be worn for fans ages five years old or older unless actively eating or drinking.
LAST TIME OUT: Eastern Washington opened up Big Sky Conference play on the road on Thursday, Dec. 2 at Southern Utah where they lost 60-46. The Eagles trailed 30-15 at the half, but limited the Thunderbirds to just one field goal while it shot 50 percent from the field to trail by single digits heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, Southern Utah was 19-of-20 from the free throw line which made the difference in EWU's loss.
Jaydia Martin scored in double figures for the fifth-straight time as an Eagle, adding 13 points. She also tied for the team lead with three steals and two blocks, plus added three rebounds and an assist.
Alexis Pettis was the other Eagle in double figures, adding 10 points to go with four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: Eastern Washington is 1-4 overall with an 0-1 in Big Sky Conference play. They have played one other NAIA opponent in Evergreen State earlier this season on Nov. 21 at home that resulted in a 101-38 decision. In that win, the Eagles scored the third-most points in program history and tied a program record with 17 three-pointers.
The Eagles average 63.8 points per game and allow just 61.2 which is the second-lowest in the conference. Eastern Washington is shooting 38.3 percent from the field and are averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game. EWU pulls down the fourth-most amount of rebounds per game with 39.2. Eastern also ranks in the top six in the conference in steals (2
nd, 9.0) blocked shots (4
th, 3.4), and assists (6
th, 13.2) per game.
Freshman
Jaydia Martin leads the team and ranks second in the Big Sky with 16.8 points per game. She has scored in double figures in all five games so far as an Eagle, including one 20-point performance against San Jose State. Martin leads the Big Sky with 15 total three-pointers and is shooting 34.1 percent from the field to rank fifth. She is also 10
th in blocks per game.
Jacinta Buckley also ranks 20
th in the Big Sky with 10.3 points per game and is fourth in rebounding with 8.0 boards per contest.
Other Eagles include Nuria Cunill who is 12
th in the Big Sky in blocks per game with .08,
Milly Knowles is ninth in the conference with 1.5 steals per game and both
Bria Rice (2.8) and
Andie Zylak (2.4) lead the team in assists.
A LOOK AT MULTNOMAH: Multnomah is a member at the NAIA level that competes in the Cascade Collegiate Conference in Portland, Ore. The Lions are 1-8 overall this season, but are coming off of a 70-58 win over Corban University on Dec. 4.
The Lions average 63.2 points per game and are shooting 32.9 percent from the field. They knock down 3.9 three-pointers per game and grab 40.4 rebounds per game.
Three players average double figures in scoring in Dalila Rincan (11.2), Alaygza Portis (11.0) and Shaila Mays (10.8). Portis leads the team with 7.2 rebounds.
The two squads have met twice in program history with EWU picking up wins in both games.
