Eagles Compete Against Oregon and Portland this Saturday and Sunday

EWU sits 0-3 overall headed into the weekend, with both matches set to begin at 10 a.m. Pacific time

CHENEY, Wash. – Following a tough 6-1 defeat versus Pac-12 foe Washington last weekend, the Eastern Washington University women's tennis squad looks to bounce back against opponents Oregon and Portland this Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 20-21). Saturday's match against Oregon begins at 10 a.m. Pacific time at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene Ore., while Sunday's match begins at 10 a.m. PT at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore.

"We are looking forward to our road swing through Oregon. We have been building as a team with each match we have played so far this season and we will look to continue this trend through the weekend," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "Belief and confidence in what we can accomplish as a team is rising and we know we stack up well against the competition. We are tremendously grateful for the opportunity to compete and we will enjoy the journey this weekend."

As a team, the Eagles sit 0-3 overall but freshman Jennifer Kida is currently on a two-match winning streak in singles play after defeating both Pac-12 opponents in Washington and Washington State at the No.2 spot.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: OREGON

EWU has yet to find victory over the Ducks in regular season play as they have an overall series record of 0-10 against Oregon.

The Ducks currently hold a 2-1 overall record following a 4-3 win versus Portland State and a 5-2 victory against Idaho, both at home. Oregon is led by head coach Courtney Nagle who enters her fourth season at the helm. Nagle led her squad to an 8-6 overall winning record last season before it was cut short due to COVID-19.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: PORTLAND

Eastern has a 4-22 overall series record versus Portland. The Eagles collided with the Pilots in January of 2019 at a neutral site in Seattle, Wash., and defeated them 4-3 as they have a one-match winning streak against Portland.

Portland has yet to play a match this season, but will face Oregon before hosting EWU.

The Pilots are steered by Susie Campbell who enters her 27th season at the helm. Campbell has implanted a winning tradition in the Pilot program and has been awarded two West Coast Conference Coach of the Year nods, as she is the winningest women's tennis coach in school history.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Eagles host Whitworth on Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. Pacific time at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.
